I hope you have your necktie ready, because you're about to learn how to tie the four-in-hand.
Begin by flipping the collar of your shirt up. Once you've done that, go ahead and take
your tie, loop it around your neck, and then here you're going to want the wide end to
be about twice as long as the narrow end, starting out. This is kind of what that looks
like, if I hold it up. There's a lot more of the wide end, which is exactly what we
want. Once you have that squared away, go ahead and take the wide end over the narrow
end, over the front of the narrow end, and pinch it with your two fingers, then go around
the back of the narrow end, and then I kind of hold the tie with my arm, and then grab
it again, and then go over the front of my two fingers here. So I was pinching the tie
where it crossed, and then now I'm going over those two fingers that I was using to pinch,
and then I'll go around the back and go up through the loop created by my neck. And then
I'll just take the tip of the tie, stuff it right down through that hole, and then just
pull it snug. As you're pulling it snug, you may notice the tie wants to twist. Go ahead
and just make sure that as you're pulling it tight everything is where it needs to be.
Then I usually put my pointer finger just right up in the middle of the tie, just like
that, and snug it down. And that will give you a nice little dimple in the middle of
your tie, and then I pull up at the top, which give the knot a nice triangular shape. Once
you have that, go ahead and hold the narrow end and slide the knot up to your neck. You
don't want it super tight, but you don't want it really loose either. Once you have that
taken care of, go ahead and flip the collar of your shirt down, and make sure that the
tie is not hanging out in the back....or anywhere else. Once you have that all squared away,
go ahead and make sure that the tie is centered, give it one final snug up to your neck, and
then take the narrow end in the back and loop it through the loops, just so that it's not
flopping from side to side in the back of your tie. So once you have that, you're all
set! Now you'll want to make sure that the tie just barely hits the top of your belt.
If it doesn't, and it's too long, then you're going to want to start with less of the wide
end when you start out. If it's too short, then obviously you're going to want more of
the wide end when you start tying your tie. I hope you found this video helpful. If you
