David: Well, when I look into Senior Care opportunities, the industry seemed like a
very strong one. There were 100 franchises, other groups that were willing to sell me
their services and train me. Of course, when I found Companion Connection, the great price
[was there 00:00:24] for the great value, along with all the training, and all the support.
Then, I talked to David Goodman. I felt that he knew what he was talking about, and was
always available to answer my questions and my calls. I felt I had a good rapport with
him from early on.
I was running my own business, a small business in Southern California, and that was ... I
liked that feeling, had control over myself, and being responsible for things. It was tougher
because I didn't have someone in that business to help me know the steps to take, to know
which path to walk. Of course, we all have some mistakes made, and it's harder to judge
if you're moving in the right direction or not. I was excited for this opportunity where
I have someone with lots of experience, who can give me lots of ideas, and really know
all the mistakes that have been made already.
The doing-it-yourself part is just very, very hard to get into anything ... I can't think
of a business that's not complex in some way, and to [inaudible 00:01:27] complex without
any kind of guidance from someone that had been there before is very challenging. This
business has one ... has lots of regulations, and lots of mistakes that can be made. Very
serious mistakes can be made, and so I wanted that kind of guidance. Franchises ... it goes
too far the other way, too many rules, too many limits, really. There's a high price
in the beginning, a high price going forward, and huge limitations, especially on your market,
but also [inaudible 00:01:58] what you can say to people, and what you can offer people.
I didn't want those limitations either in my territory, or in what I could do, and how
I could run my business, but I did want the help. I did want the guidance. I wanted all
the ideas that were available to me from CCSC.
It's a very good opportunity if you're willing to take responsibility upon yourself, that
if you are willing ... up to a challenge. It's a challenge, but it's a great opportunity
if you want to be with people, and you want to work hard. They really make you feel like
you can do it and succeed at it, so I believe that you can. Well, I'm kind of ambitions,
so I'd like in five years to have several staff under me, and I'd like to be in seven
figures as far as gross billing goes. I would like to start to train people to branch out
so that in ... between five and ten years, I'd like to have at least one other office.
To expand in the Bay Area, the San Francisco Bay Area, and I'd like to be East Bay to North
Bay San Francisco, and South Bay. That's my goal.
I'm a face-to-face person, so that's part of why I'm doing this business. I like the
idea of live training all together. I've very quickly felt comfortable with David and Frank.
Live training is nice because you can interact. You can follow up with questions. I know you
can do that on the phone conversations, and I will be doing that in the future in phone
conversations. In live training, I feel like I get a little more, and I build a rapport
that's better, and I can get at nuances and things a little [inaudible 00:03:41].
It gives me the opportunity to make my own decisions, to work with people directly, and
to help people. That's the great thing is you can work with people, and you can find
out what they need. You help people, and because it's my own business, and not a franchise,
I can make my own choices as to how I help them, what I have my employees do, what I
charge people. I can adjust for situations, and not always be promoting some other idea,
some other model that may not fit this exact situation. With my own business, I can help
people directly, and do that to the best of my ability.
