Today a Reuters news report in London, England published a global index on modern slavery.
It discovered the following information.
There are 30 million people who are enslaved worldwide. They are trafficked into brothels
or forced into manual labor.
In this edition of The Sunday Law News Report, I'll show you that slavery is alive and well
in our modern world. No one wants to hear this, but yet still it's true. Slavery still
exists!
My name is Brent Whinfield, and I'm a Seventh-day Adventist Christian, and THIS is The Sunday
Law News Report.
Yes my friend, slavery indeed does exist.
Almost half are in India, where slavery ranges from bonded labor in quarries and kilns to
commercial sex exploitation. It is acknowledged that slavery exists in all 162 countries surveyed
by Walk Free, an Australian-based rights group.
Its estimate of 29.8 million slaves worldwide is higher than other attempts to quantify
modern slavery. The International Labour Organisation estimates that almost 21 million people are
victims of forced labour.
"Today some people are still being born into hereditary slavery, a staggering but harsh
reality, particularly in parts of West Africa and South Asia," the report said.
"Other victims are captured or kidnapped before being sold or kept for exploitation, whether
through 'marriage', unpaid labour on fishing boats, or as domestic workers. Others are
tricked and lured into situations they cannot escape, with false promises of a good job
or an education."
According to the index, 10 countries alone account for three quarters of the world's
slaves.
After India, China has the most with 2.9 million, followed by Pakistan.
Chattel slavery is common in Mauritania, meaning that slave status is passed down through generations.
"Owners" buy, sell, rent out, or give away their slaves as gifts.
Saint of God if this doesn't galvanize you to do something about the horror of sin in
this world, then I'm afraid nothing will. Slavery as awful as it is, is only one way
in which satan has enslaved people.
People are also enslaved by an addiction to television, degrading music, and video games.
The devil has a thousand and one ways to enslave the mind. What is the solution? In one word:
Think how marvellous it'll be when there will be no more slavery. We will eventually live
in a clean, pure world where there is nothing but joy, peace, and love for God, and for
each other.
