- [Announcer] Welcome to Recycle Often Recycle Right,
the greenest game show on earth.
Now, let's get to know our contestants.
First, we have team Recycle Often, Melkeya and Pat.
Melkeya loves long walks on the beach
and is probably stronger than you.
Pat loves puppies and is known for his ventriloquism skills.
Battling head-to-head against team Recycle Often,
we have team Recycle Right.
Matthew, Melkeya's son, loves putting his face in the sand
and is known for eating his weight in burgers and pizza.
Heather, Pat's daughter, also loves puppies and is known
for being a jokester.
Remember, the first team to hit the buzzer has one chance
to answer the question.
If the answer is correct, they win the points.
Whoever gets the most points wins the game and goes home
with a brand new recycling truck.
Now, let's meet our host Jim Fish.
(cheering)
- Hello, hello, hello.
Welcome to our Recycle Often Recycle Right game show
where we learn how to recycle often, but more importantly
we learn how to recycle right.
You guys ready to go?
- Yes! - Let's go.
- Alright, let's do it.
Alright, so I'm gonna go through some items and you tell me
whether they're recyclable or trash
and then I'll assign some points for the winners.
Alright, let's start out with rubber flip flops.
Rubber flip flops, recyclable or trash?
(buzzing)
Melkeya.
- Trash.
- [Jim] Why?
- Because they're rubber.
(laughing)
- Alright, I'll give you a point for that.
What should you do with them?
- [Melkeya] You should donate them.
- You can donate them or throw them in the trash,
but you're right.
Empty milk cartons.
(buzzing)
Matthew.
- Yes, it is recyclable.
- Correct, it is recyclable.
You should take an empty milk carton, wash it out,
wash the excess milk out
and then put it in your recycle bin.
1,000 points.
(cheering) - 1,000 points? (laughs)
- Bowling balls.
(buzzing)
Bowling balls, Matthew again, quick.
- You cannot recycle them.
- You cannot, you're correct.
Why not?
- I don't know, probably because it's pretty much hard.
- [Jim] Yeah, that's a good answer.
I'll give you 1,000 for that.
- [Matthew] Yay!
- Put that thing in the trash.
Alright, how about inflatable--
(laughing)
Inflatable exercise balls-- (buzzing)
You hit your button too early.
Alright, Pat.
- No, they are not recyclable.
- That is correct.
They are not recyclable
and any reason why that might not be recyclable?
- [Pat] The material they're made of.
It's rubber, plastic, all kinds of stuff in there.
- Hard for the equipment to take it apart.
That is absolutely right.
I'll give you a point for that.
- One?
- One point, nice job.
How about plastic bottle caps? (buzzing)
Heather.
- [Heather] Yes, they are recyclable.
- They are recyclable, outstanding, plastic bottle caps
are recyclable.
Good job, put those in the recycle bin.
Next, how about plastic wrap and ropes?
(buzzing)
Melkeya.
- Not recyclable.
- [Jim] Not recyclable and why not?
- [Melkeya] Because the ropes would get caught up
in our machinery.
- Absolutely right, two points for that.
How about plastic bags?
(buzzing)
Matthew.
- No.
- Correct, and why not?
You have any idea why?
- Same thing, no idea.
- Same thing, no idea.
(laughing)
They get wrapped around the equipment, so good answer.
- [Matthew] Thank you. - Alright,
how about batteries,
recyclable or trash? (buzzing)
Pat.
- They're not recyclable.
- Correct, they're not recyclable at our plants
because the chemicals in those batteries can't be handled
by our equipment.
If they break apart, it's bad for our equipment.
One point for team Often.
Alright, magazines, recyclable or trash?
(buzzing) Heather.
- They are recyclable.
- [Jim] Correct, they are recyclable.
Fantastic.
- [Matthew] How many points?
- 1,000.
Now, to our bonus question.
I'll give you a little bit of time to think about this.
How will you protect the earth?
(pulsing music)
(buzzing)
Matthew, first to your button.
- We said not to just throw away stuff like everything.
- Like, recycle the things that need to be recycled
and that are not supposed to be recycled,
you just throw them in the trash or donate them.
- Excellent answer.
1,000 points for that.
Team Often, what's your answer?
- We are gonna carpool.
- [Jim] Carpool?
- We're gonna carpool.
- Carpool, alright, that's better for the earth.
We'll give you a point for that.
Well, it looks like we have a winning team.
By my tally it was a landslide, the Recycle Right team
and your prize is a fabulous Waste Management truck.
You're gonna have to figure out a way to split that.
The Recycle Often team gets a fabulous used bowling ball.
Congratulations, and you'll have to figure out
how to split that as well.
- You can have it.
- Thank you for joining us and join us next time
on another show of Recycle Often Recycle Right.
