Lesson 3: Beverbs
Hello Everyone! Annyeonghaseyo
This is lesson 3
and we are going to talk about be verbs.
so Keita what's be verbs?
be verbs are things like is, am, and are
In Korean there are only two be verbs
는(neun) and 은 (eun)
after object we put 이에요 or 예요
Korean has formal way to speak and plain way to speak.
When you respect someone or anyone who is older than you, you wanna speak in formal way.
If you are talking to friends like me and Keita, you speak in plain way.
이에요/예요 is formal way to speak.
so what about plain way to speak?
는 and 은 is same but after the object it becomes 이야 or 야.
이에요 = 이야 and 야 = 예요
Let me show you when to use 는 or 은 with 이에요 or 예요.
는 is used when the noun ends in vowel.
so what are vowels?
are is am..... (wrong)
that's be verbs not vowels
vowels. Korean vowels.
ㅏ,ㅑ,ㅖ things like that.
은 is used when the noun ends in Consonants. Such as
ㄱ ㄴ ㄲ
so after 는/은 object comes and 이에요 is used when the object ends in consonant.
and 예요 is used when object ends in vowel.
는 and 예요 goes with vowel. and 은 and 이에요 goes with consonants.
At first it will be confusing but as you memorize the words, try to make a sentence with these.
Let me give you some examples.
when you introduce yourself in formal way, you would say
저(jeo) which is formal word for 'I'
if I wanna introduce myself, I would say
저는 민섭이에요.
Because 저 ends with ㅓ which is vowel
는 comes and as 민섭(Minsub) ends with ㅂ(b) which is consonant, 이에요 is used.
What about plain way?
나는 (na neun) I am.
케이타예요 (formal way)
what about plain way?
you would say 케이타야.
나 is 'I' and it ends with vowel. so 는 comes.
and 케이타 ends with vowel so 야 which is plain way of saying 예요 is used.
Keita try giving me an example.
ok. 저는 케이타예요
What about other than introducing yourself
you can use anything like.
that uses be verbs. you can say like.
쟤는 준이에요.
he is F@#$er
Well..that... make sense. grammatically it was right
Hopefully you guys learned how to use be verbs.
Next time we will comeback with 도 and negative expressions.
도 is 'also' 나도 . yea. we will comeback with that.
Thank you, Gamsahabnida and see you!!
