In this tutorial we will look at the Discussions Tool.
This tool can be used for online discussions
between you and other students and/or your instructor. You may
be asked to create messages in regards to readings, class activities,
group projects, or useful resources that you think
might be of interest to other students. Remember, to access the discussions
board for your course click on the Discussions link
in the navigation bar.
The main discussion area displays a list of current
active discussions. When adding a new message
select the discussion you want to join from the displayed
forums and topics list.
For our demonstration we are going to use the Discussion Board Exercise.
Click on the discussion topic
Click on Compose.
to add a new message.
A new window will appear.
Give the message a subject title.
Type the text in the message box.
Notice that there are two tabs, Basic and
Advanced. Click on the Advanced tab
and you will see more options.
For example, if I want a heading in my message
I can click on the drop down menu and select Heading 1.
The built in editor has
similar features that you would find in most word processors.
If you would like to add a file, select the Add a File button.
This will allow you to browse your computer, located the file
and upload it to the discussion post.
Once you have uploaded the file
you will see it in the attachments area.
Remember to click Post
at the bottom of the window to post your message to
the discussion topic.

The last topic we will cover in this tutorial
is replying to an existing post.
To reply to an existing post, select the existing
posting from the list of messages in the topic.
Click on Reply.
A new window will open.
You can add your response,
add a file,
and remember to click Post
in the lower right corner to post your reply to the discussion topic.
