This video will help you with your driving techniques
by introducing you to broad observation and hazard perception
so for some more background on these let's ask Brian Everitt
from RACQ Drive Assist. Thanks Warren...
observation skills are developed by regularly shifting your eyes between the
vehicle's mirrors
the dashboard and scanning the road and the road side environment
near and far to the front and rear the vehicle
with eyes up view as well as being aware what is going on to the sides of
your vehicle
you should conduct a blind spot check over the appropriate shoulder
at every lane change or when merging including moving off from and moving
into the side of the road
you should use the rear vision mirrors before slowing
or stopping, turning, merging or changing lanes
as a driver of a vehicle you must be mindful other vehicles and their blind
spots as well
when moving through a multi-lane traffic do not remain in an unsafe position
where you are not visible to other drivers. Your hazard perception skills
are very important for helping prevent crashes. The best way to develop these
skills is to gain extensive driving experience
while practicing safe driving behaviors such as keeping a safe following distance
and actively scanning the road and roadside environment
take a look at this and see if you can spot the potential hazards
did you see them? watch again
this time we'll show you the potential hazards - pedestrians,
people exiting and entering cars in parking spots,
pedestrians crossing roads, cars reversing
Your hazard skills
are very important. Thanks Brian that's great advice as usual
now by ensuring that you're constantly monitoring your surroundings on the
road
you maintain a safe environment for yourself and other road users
so stay safe and happy driving
