Awards Ceremony for International Students 24 February 2010
Trevor Fletcher: For our schools, the international student program has significant benefits.
It does enrich our cultural diversity.
It broadens the curriculum. It enhances teaching.
It gives all students a broader global perspective.
Elizabeth: When I first came here
I was amazed by the number of subjects available to us.
I did three maths and three languages
which was very exciting.
Although maths was challenging, I still found it quite interesting.
Yumi Kim: The NSW government school has lots of
international and local students from different countries.
Making friends with a different cultural background
gives a opportunity to experience different culture
and that helps me expand the perspectives on the world.
Han Lin: The friendliness of the teachers and students
has resulted in this harmony which positively affected us.
Gillian Gan: I've met amazing teachers where, sort of just,
cultivated everything in me and just pushed me to my
whole potential and I think that's what's the best about it.
Huy Long Nguyen: Studying at NSW government schools
has provided me with a variety of good knowledge
in the subjects that I'm undertaking at Uni and
I've also built some good friendships from there.
David Riordan: We hope that you go back to your jobs,
your further study, your countries,
with what we've taught you, with what you've learnt here
and I know that we'll all take lots from you as well.
Jennifer Pilon: The international students bring a great enthusiasm
to their studies at Cleveland Street.
They're looking forward to the adventure of learning
in their new city in Australia.
They want to try everything.
Jacqueline Koob: This year had four of our international students among our top ten students
so it's a real strengthening of that side there
but also we find that these students bring with them
good attitudes to work which set a good tone in the classroom
and act as a good example to other students to try hard as well.
Greg Wann: From the point of view of our school and students
it's enriched their experiences
of getting to know students from Asian countries.
The curriculum's been enriched with Korean, Japanese
and Chinese now embedded in the curriculum.
It's strengthened the breadth of science subjects and
maths subjects and English subjects and also
all of those extra curricular activities that they bring
in terms of music and sport and drama.
Kim Jackson: Well the international students in my school
contributed a lot culturally to the school.
They provide a lot of diversity and richness to our
whole school culture. Their dedication and diligence to
their studies is always of a high standard and
I think that certainly encourages a lot of other students
to work even harder.
Thuy Vi Dao: For those who are thinking of studying
in NSW government school, I would like to say to them
just do not hesitate and just go for it because
I had the best experience in my school life
during my three years at a NSW government high school
so just come and enjoy the experience.
