Yeah! Jay Swarve.
Big up NCS Spotlight.
We got the team...
... we got Puv, who's absent today on the vocals.
I've been writing lyrics for ages. Like since I was younger...
...cause I always heard my older cousins doing tunes and that I just thought you know what let me do it.
I only recorded my first tune, I think it was only about three years ago.
And I recorded it at mine. And that's where it started.
I just thought I'll put some tunes out on soundcloud, and yeah got some love.
- Nice - And I never looked back.
"I was like turn it up, because I need music never turn it off.
I earnt my buzz, artists hate, but I learnt to not. Take notice when nobody's heard of them.
Ain't trying to catch a case and get birded off. But its hard these days trying to search a job.
Financial times, got to earn the grub. Escape told me, not I'm learning her.
So I'm out on a raise on an early one. In the studio trying to make hits."
- So, were you born rapping or did you remember the first time you picked up a mic?
- Yeah, I think I was born rapping. It's in my genes. - [Laughs]
I found a beat and it was a C-Major beat, C-Major from east London.
And I just wrote what I was feeling at the time.
And I just put it out and it was getting love and so, I just carried on.
"Oh yeah we do this"
So who are your inspirations?
My inspirations? Definitely all the people that are around me on a day to day basis.
My family and that. My breadrins and that.
In terms of artists and that. Drake definitely. J. Cole.
All the Reggae artists, Jaguar, Beres Hammond, Buju Banton all of them.
All inspirations.
"This is Swarvey and Puv, spread the word trying to put Derby above. And there tryin' to shut down the largest of clubs."
So do you remember your "Yes" moment.
Was there a time when you weren't sure about it and you just decided to think...
..."Yes! I'm going to go for it I'm going to push the rapping?"
My first song. I just thought, when I started getting love, I just thought yeah...
...let me just do this and see how it goes you know what I mean.
What's the big plan then? What's the dream for you?
The dream? I think the dream is to start my own label and help others...
...I think that's definitely my dream. I'm not really to bothered about the fame cause that's just stress.
I think I want to start my own label and help other artists to be honest...
...like the younger people around me and that.
So what other kind of stuff are you up to?
You know what I run a media company sort of thing, that does film and music videos...
...freestyles, interviews; all sorts of stuff.
And that's called Swagger Camp Media and I've been doing that for about two years, I think.
And that's going really well like, for the Midlands and that.
I've been to Birmingham, Nottingham, everywhere. I've been everywhere, filmed lots of things.
- Alright - That's going alright still!
- Jamal Edwards we're coming for you! - [Laughs]
"Oh yeah we, oh yeah we, oh yeah we do this."
