Hey Youtube World! It's me, Evelyn. And I am coming to you fresh off a REM cycle, so
bear with me.
I really wanted to get this review out before the new year, because I feel like it could
help one of my internet cousins out there. So get ready! This is going to be somewhat
of a serious one. I know -- Evelyn being serious? What is air, right?
This is a review of Alexandra Elle's book "Words From A Wanderer". It's a short little book
-- maybe 50 pages in total. And it's just full of notes to herself and little affirmations, and observations,
and realizations about her life and what's going on.
The reason I purchased this book when it came out months ago, was because I was curious.
Alex and I are the same age. And we do not...I don't know her, but I feel like we don't emit
the same age.
What is in her mind, you know? What makes her the way she is, and what makes me the
way I am?
She is a mommy. I am not a mommy. I feel like she's been in love before, and I don't really
love these heauxs, so -- see look, I'm trying to be serious I really am trying.
The curiosity of "she's my age, so what's in her brain that's not in mine, or what's
in my brain that's not in hers."
I don't know -- that's the reason I bought the book. So this is her little intro to the
book.
"I started writing notes to myself because a little self-love can go a long way. I no
longer seek validation from others, nor do I rely on the outside world to tell me how
worthy I am or how amazing I can be."
Since this is a book of notes and little poems, I don't really think it's the type of book
that you should just read in one go. I recommend that you wake up in the morning or before
you go to bed or something, you just choose a page and read it. Choose a passage and read
it. Get a little bit of your life, you know, and it's time for some introspective thinking.
In the book there are poems with titles, and then there are notes to herself, which are
just titled "Dear Self" and then signed by "Self".
"Dear Self. If you keep going backwards with the same people that God has intentionally
removed from your life, you will continue to stay stuck. There is no joy in being confused
and unhappy. Get rid of old, bad habits and leave them where they belong. What is meant
for you will be yours. Learn to let go. Dysfunction isn't love. Sincerely, Self."
Say that though!
Maybe this one is my favorite:
"Dear Self, Keep in mind that the reason you know you can be good to others is only because
you've taken strides to be better for and to yourself. Gratefully yours, Self."
I really appreciated that this book of poems was accessible. It's just notes to herself,
more than like "as the I rustle through the wandering leaves and I danced along the lilies."
you know? Sometimes, you just wanna know that the person writing the words is a person and
not some esoteric, otherworldly...you know?
I love the simplicity. I love the little illustrations, little doodles in here.
There are some notes in here that are for a lover. Past, present, and future. And there
are just love poems to herself. Sometimes you just have to be like "Listen. You? In
the mirror. You okay. You're good."
I also like how in the back, she gives you blank pages. Start writing your own notes
to yourself.
I did really like it, and I just wanted to support a fellow woman, a fellow twentysomething,
youtuber, blogger.
And of course, because I love you guys for some reason, I bought a copy for you! Hahhhh
one of you will win a copy!
This is gonna be a prize for someone to write notes to yourself. Love on yourself. Be a
little more self-aware. Healthy from within.
All you have to do is, in the comments below, write a note to yourself. And that will be
your entry to win Alexandra Elle's book of notes and love poems Words From A Wanderer.
Hopefully people enter! I know it's kind of asking a lot, but. At the very least, participate
in the hashtag #ANote2Self.
I will see you on the internet somewhere. Bye!
