AHMED: Hello my name is Ahmed Osman. I'm nineteen
and I came here from Somalia in 2001. I left school
with a couple of qualifications, tried to go to college but i missed the interview
so after that I didn't have the motivation to push on.
I was quite upset, I was angry and then
Alan Reekie came to my door.
ALAN: Every year we follow people up who have left school and
myself and a colleague went out to a home visit and met Ahmed through that.
So we brought him in for an interview to talk about what he wants to do and what support he needed.
I helped Ahmed with things like going for interviews,
we did a CV, we got him registered to My World of Work as well. We looked at
help with application forms.
So once he started his apprenticeship with Carillion and also with Tigers his provider
I saw him a few times to make sure he was okay,
that he had transport to get there in terms of expenses and any other type of support.
Even after a couple of weeks or months after
his apprenticeship he was still seeing me to make sure he was okay and everything was
progressing well.
AHMED: An apprenticeship is great, friend wise, talking wise, you become more confident.
It's a great way to start your life plus you're getting your money and
and an education. You learn a lot, like me, I've got great people here.
They are helping out in a really great way. This took me by storm and benefited me in
a great way and I enjoy it every step of the way.
