Hi everyone, and welcome to this new episode of "Metalliwhat ?"
Today, we are gonna talk about the first his you see when you watch a metahead :
his look.
As you can see, I got my 2 arms tattooed for the show.
The things I do to entertain you...
No, of course, it's a costume. But it very well illustrates our first point :
Physical modifications
In metal, you often see people with piercings, ear plugs, tattoos, etc.
I don't think there is a reason in particular for metalheads to have them, though.
Metalhead of not, everyone has their reasons. But there's ont thing I can say :
Tattoos are cool !
I myself have a few of them. No, don't insist, I won't get naked to show them !
We can see everything :
Cute tattoos
Less cute tattoos
Small ear piercings
Pretty big ear plugs
Really everything. You can like it or not, it's a matter of taste, but according to the civil code :
"Every human being is free to dispose of their own body."
but I'm not gonna teach you the law, it's not Metal.
Yes, because "Metal" can be used as an adjective.
This is not Metal,
This is Metal !
Next point, and you can trust me on this one :
Hair.
Since hippies are not numerous anymore, it is in Metal that we find the most long-haired people.
And the reason for that is very simple.
No, of course it's not the only reason. But it's a significant asset to the practice of this ritual.
And it's not an obligation either. We can see many short-haired metalheads,
and even with no hair at all.
For the girls, it's the same, we see everything.
From the simple haircut to the neon hair for the most extravagants,
From the dreadlocks to the punk mohawk.
But one thing the girls don't have, and it's for the best, is the beard.
The guys froms ZZ Top don't have the monopoly of facial hair,
and they even have one hell of a competition !
We can see here the band Amon Amarth, who don't only speak about vikings in their songs but also looks like them.
But if a young metalhead doesn't have any beard, long hair of tattoos,
how can he claim his membership to this satanic sect of all sins ?
Clothes, of course !
Clothes
Metal has its own dressing codes, and the most famous of them is the band t-shirt.
It is generally black, and it can have an original design on it, an album cover of the band or just its name.
You can find it very easily, and in a lot of places.
The merch booth at the end of the show, a specialized shop, a festival booth and of course on the web.
Black is usually appreciated in a metalhead's clothing.
Why ?
Because Metal is like, SO dark !
T-shirts, sweatshirts,
Pants, shoes,
Jackets, bandanas,
Bracelets, gloves,
Shorts, underwear, socks...
The blacker, the better !
Other typical metal clothing : The patch vest !
Oh, sorry !
The patch vest, or Battlejacket, in English.
Is it me, of English speakers a way more hardcore than us ?
It's a very personnal cloth, because everyone puts the patches he wants on it.
Furthermore, the basic piece of clothing variates,
from a simple sleeveless shirt to a costumized miliraty jacket.
Mine is made of denim, I think it's the most common.
You can put anything you want : Spikes, pins, festival wristbands, beer caps...
But mainly patches.
Looking for patches is harder than for t-shirts, because it is not selling as much, and you never find the bands you want anyway.
But the 2 places to look for is online, and in festivals, where some booths have full boxes of them.
And to finish, there is metal. And I'm now speaking of the matter.
Metal
We don't only listen to metal, we wear it too !
And everything works : chains, spikes, rings, bullet belts... And the list is long.
It adds to the "aggressive" side of the look, and
No ! A titanium hip prothesis or braces are not metal, I'm sorry !
Anyway, all of this to say that in Metal, we have a special look. But not always !
Some metalheads dress up with more common clothes.
And you don't recognize them when you see them in the street or at work,
but under this short hair and this nice shirt sometimes hides metal fans.
They are amongst you in the metro, in the doctor's waiting room and you don't even know it...
Do they scare you anyway ?
Thank you, that was my point.
It's already the end of this 3rd episode of "Metalliwhat ?"
Yes, I know. But I'll be back soon to continue on the metal genres, in the meantime take care, and see y'all later !
It was "Metalliwhat ?"
A show on Metal presented by Hubert
The list of the songs played during the show is in the description
Thanks for watching and see you next time !
Why didn't you speak about the shoes ?
Oh, I don't know...
Didn't feel it, I guess.
