Today on our 2005 Ford Expedition well be test fitting the Sportrack II hitch mounted
bike carrier, part number A30901. To mount our carrier to the vehicle well insert the
shank of the carrier into the receiver tube of the hitch. Well line up our hitch pin hole,
thread in our anti-rattle bolt, and tighten it down using a wrench. Next well go over
a handful of clearance measurements. Weve got about 18 inches of ground clearance and
about 10 inches of clearance between the closest part of the carrier and the closest part of
the vehicle. Overall weve added about 30 inches of length to the rear of the vehicle.
We also want to check for rear vehicle access. To do this well remove the pins at the base
of the carrier and fold the arms with the wheel hoops down. Well also fold down our
upright mast. We just want to make sure that we can open our cargo door completely and
access the area, even with the carrier mounted to the vehicle. Now well put our mast back
up and prepare
to load a bike.
