The Health Research Council of NZ (HRC) has announced a fund
called Nga Kanohi Kitea
for community driven Maori health research worth over $1 million.
The council says the fund will go to groups
that have never received funding support for their health research.
Bioremediation of *** and Dioxin contaminated sites
within the Whakatane District is the focus of a project
led by Te Runanga o Ngati Awa
with the aid of funding from the Health Research Council of NZ.
It is about the wellbeing of the soils, which is our livelihood.
Ruakere Hond of Te Kupenga Matauranga o Taranaki Trust
says they received assistance
for their Maori Identity-based Community Development
as a Sustainable Approach to Maori Health Promotion.
Te Kupenga Matauranga aims
to support the Taranaki community in education.
Seven groups will receive the fund
from the Health Research Council of NZ this year.
We have 36 *** and dioxin contaminated sites in our region.
Our aim is to remove the contamination in the soil.
We used this health research fund to develop the health
and education of the community.
That's why Te Kupenga Matauranga applied for this fund.
The Health Research Council of NZ believes the people should decide
which research projects should be pursued.
