today we're visiting the Orange County campus of American Career College were
associates and faculty are welcoming ACC alumni for a special Holiday Open House
over a hundred graduates from Orange County stopped by for some holiday cheer
and the opportunity to learn about what's happening at ACC
the massage therapy program was a popular stop at the Alumni open house
I got to sit down with several alumni to talk about their ACC experience
and what they're doing now
well I went to American Career College in 2008
it was a really good experience, it was a year program so it was
accelerated which was hard but the professors were really good and they
really pushed us
yeah? so tell me what you're doing now
umm I'm working as an RN
at Parkview Health Care Center so I do medications, IV medications, umm patient care
so I went to American Career College it took me about
eight months, umm I really enjoyed it
I started there because I felt stuck in
school when I was going to ---- college and ---- college
I felt like a minimum wage job was getting me nowhere in life
so I was like, hey lets take a dive! let's do this ACC thing, why not, I see the
commercials all the time
umm actually a friend of mine was coming here and she gave
really good reviews about it and I was interested, I came here
umm they talk to me a little bit about the GI bill because I had GI Bill benefits
umm I came to American Career College in 2011
and I came in for the medical assisting program
and?
and umm I've been working at
Gateway urgent care for a year and a half now
and hows that going?
its good I like it
what made you decide to come here?
umm, honestly, I did
the whole sitting at home on the couch, and they were like why don't you just go to school
you're not doing anything, and I did, and I loved it
originally I'm from Central California and I
didn't know what I wanted to do when I graduated from high school
and one of my friends down here told me about this school and how he was doing the
program and it was really interesting to me so that's how I found out about it
umm I came to American Career College
about three years ago in the optical dispensing program, umm
about eight months I did a internship at La Mirada Eye Laser and I got hired on
I work for am orthotics and prosthetics
umm company which is a specialty ancillary
when I graduated from school I was
uh, school, this school actually help me find a job I was working for
a dermatologist
and as of last year I started working for
orthotics and prosthetics and I'm very very happy there
I get to walk into a job I
really like every day, I get to hang out with people that became my friends
in such a short amount of time and I just felt like it was a really good choice
where were you stationed in the Air Force?
in Grand Forks North Dakota
oh, what was your job there?
aircraft maintenance
oh wow, so was that a big difference going from the Air Force, going from the Air Force into school?
big difference
big difference, but it's good, being there just helped me to adapt to different things
and I like changing careers and well coming here was good to me
I would definitely recommend it
umm, it's a good way to get in quickly instead of being on a waiting list
I always recommend this school umm because prior to me coming to the school I went to
a different school and I had a really bad experience there
but when I graduated from this school I've
always told my friends about this school and I know a couple of friend
have come here before, this year actually
I like the professors and how they're really there to help you and you can tell you really
enjoy their jobs and so... and the clinical experience is great too
I think the instructors here
they care more about the students, they actually
help you through each process, verses just leaving you and
letting you be, and not really being there for you
...difference are the class sizes and definitely the attention, when I went
to ---- college
you're not just constantly battling for a seat
generally in the class but for attention with the teacher, because there's sixty other
kids that are trying to do the same thing as you
you know what I mean, and you're all on different levels, but with ACC it was definitely
the smaller, more concentrated attention that really really helped
