>> Surprise!
[ Cheering/Applause ]
>> Hi Janet.
>> Janet Morrison: Hi.
[laughter/applause] Nice to see you.
>> All of your colleagues here are here
to support you, in winning this award.
[laughter/applause]
>> I don't think I've ever seen you speechless before.
[laughter]
>> You get to see the good words.
>> Janet Morrison: This is a good idea.
Thank you.
>> Yeah, yeah, that's a great idea.
>> Dr. Harvey Skinner: Janet is such a competent person,
so my impression of her reaction, when she came
into my office, was she was absolutely stunned.
Her eyes just opened up.
Her face got as red as her red hair.
I actually was worried I was going
to have to go in and do CPR.
It was just an astounding reaction,
which told us there's no way she had any inkling at all
that she was getting the award.
It was, it was marvelous to see.
>> Janet Morrison: Oh, I was tremendously honored.
I love working at York, and to have that many people
and so many of my closest and beloved colleagues
in the same space, it was just, it was a tremendous honor.
It made my Monday.
It was a great day.
>> Sheila Forshaw: We have a lot of great, great staff,
great managers, great people on York's campus,
and I really think we need to take the opportunity
to thank them for the contributions
that they're making to our institution.
This is a great place to work, and it's because of the people
that we have, and Janet Morrison just epitomizes what is great
about this institution.
>> Lara Ubaldi: She elevates everybody around her.
She just comes to the table ready.
She's prepared.
>> Dr. Rhonda Lenton: I remember when I first met Janet.
We were actually in the middle of planning for H1N1,
and there were many meetings all over the entire university.
We were in a large room, and conversation was happening,
and there was this vivacious woman who had such bright ideas,
who really commanded the entire room.
And I turned to a colleague who was beside me and said, "Like,
who is that over there?"
"That's Janet Morrison.
Don't you know Janet Morrison?"
>> Bob Gagne: The extraordinary thing about her is
that from the staff line level all the way
up to the most senior leaders, these are people
who respect her, who listen to her,
to seek out her advice, and admire her.
>> Suzanne Killick: I think she is the kind of leader
that sees the potential in others that they don't see
in themselves, and I think that's critical as a mentor.
Quite often, people will hold themselves back,
who see all the reasons why they can't do things,
and she can see way past that and see their potential,
and really encourage and support them, and push them,
in some respects, to be better than who they think they are.
>> Mary Verrilli: One of the things about Janet is
that she contributes in so many ways, and always goes above
and beyond the call of duty, and always gives 110-150%
to everything that she does, and she never wants recognition.
And she is so deserving, and so I think
that this is just a great way of honoring everything
that she's done for the institution,
whether she likes it or not.
>> Janet Morrison: You know, I've said all week,
it's a tremendous honor, and I don't take it lightly.
I think people would say that I work or endeavor to give back.
I come from a family where citizenship and volunteerism
and making a contribution is really heavily valued,
and I try and live that.
And so I'm hoping that some small part
of that was recognized.
I'm so grateful.
