We are here today at Eco Print in Berlin which is a first of its kind.
It s a kind of conference show talking about, as the name says, Eco , environmental and printing .
Obviously digital printing has a big role to play in this
and the visitors here can be from designers to brand owners, including printers.
All of them have a role to play in the environment.
We have the digital press side focused on the Indigo Inkjet web press.
There the story is all about the benefits of digital on demand printing
and how that can help to reduce waste in the printing industry
and its ability to print economically in very short runs.
It s a much better match, supply with demand,
with print to help reduce inventory in the chain, to help reduce obsolescence and to help reduce waste.
We know that s very significant in many parts of the print supply chain.
We are heavily using the Indigo presses.
Sustainability is also something which means concentrating on the problems we face
and trying to solve and getting good solutions.
We feel that there is a commitment in that aspect
and that there is good support by HP.
In an age where print versus pixel is an ongoing debate,
a show such as this is an ideal opportunity for us to really talk
about the merits and the strengths of print
and how it still has an important role to play;
specifically in those mail and publishing markets.
So, we have a number of different examples here of books printed on HP inkjet web presses.
So, with wastage of around 30% common in the book publishing industry,
samples such as this being printed on demand removed that cost from a publisher s supply chain.
Pearsons had specifically taken this Psychology book
and rationalized their supply chain so they print on demand.
They distribute and print locally.
They ve removed wastage. They ve removed obsolescence
and really they re seeing an impact in massive cost reductions in their supply chain.
It s a great example how digital print has an impact and benefit within the publishing industry.
We chose HP inkjet technology.
We bought the T400 and the T200,
not only for the speed and the quality,
but we saw that they were a partner
that was also really interested in getting communication more sustainable.
So, sending out less paper but with a relevant message,
for me, that s also sustainability.
Today here we ve announced the A50 in the inkjet web press
have achieved the certification through the UL process.
Being at an event like Eco Print
gives HP the opportunity to showcase its position on the environmental issues.
