In 2009, we began a special recognition which we call the PRIDE Award. And PRIDE is an acronym
that stands for what we call our Basics for Excellence. It's about in every single interaction
demonstrating and living our Professionalism, our Responsibility, our Dedication and our
committment to Excellence. We ask people through the course of the year to nominate folks who
they believe demonstrate PRIDE. This year we received a really healthy number of nominations
and that was really exciting for us. We have four categories of awards. We have the Staff Member of the
Year. The PRIDE Staff Member of the Year. We have the PRIDE Leader of the Year. We have
the PRIDE Volunteer of the Year and we have the PRIDE Volunteer Director of the Year.
This year we have a really special person that is receiving the PRIDE Volunteer Award
of the Year, and this individual is a dedicated, totally committed volunteer. This person spends
about 6 days out of 7 at Laurelbrooke Landing helping our residents, helping to make their
lives better, helping to put a smile on their face. Whether it's helping them get to a recreational
program, whether it's sitting with them and visiting them for a little bit, whatever it
is, this individual extends heart and soul to make life better for those we serve. This
individual shares talent, time and resources, most recently providing a financial donation
so we could repair and beautify our elevators. So it is with great pleasure at this time
that I welcome Ken Witte to come forward.
It's just a great place. If anyone has a loved one who is looking for a nursing home, I truly recommend Laurelbrooke Landing.
The Volunteer Director of the Year - I'll tell you who this is - it's Bea Terbovich.
Bea has been on the board of directors since 1994. She came on our board to be part of
the visionary group that created Ridgmont. And Bea has been the chair of our board two
different times. She is so dedicated and committed to the mission of WRC Senior Services. She
didn't know she was the recipient. She called me about ten minutes before I arrived at the
banquet tonight. She had a critical problem at her place of employment and was unable
to be here. So let's all give a nice round of applause for Bea.
The next individual that I want to recognize is the PRIDE Leader of the Year awardee, and
this is another very very special person who we are extremely honored and proud to be
a leader in the WRC Senior Services family. This is an individual that is compassionate
but also passionate about what we do and the role that this individual plays in helping
us to do it. One thousand percent dedicated to our mission, vision and values. One thousand
percent innovative trying new and different things. One thousand percent with stick-to-itiveness
even when things are bad, instead of saying "We just can't do it," this individual says,
"Let's figure out how we can do this." This is the individual we recognized just a few
minutes ago with the 30 year award, and that individual is Julie Swonger.
To identify the "Staff Member of the Year" - What we'd like to do is provide honorable mention to all of the individuals who were nominated this year. When I call your name,
please stand. And then while you're standing, I'll make the announcement who is the recipient
of the staff member PRIDE Award. And the honorable mentions go to Lisha Palmer. Lisha, please
stand. Glenda Confer. Please stand, Glenda. Matt Davis, Hollie Raybuck, Roxanne Manson,
Ashley Buzard, Amanda Foringer and Susie Hammer. So let's give these folks a round of applause.
Please stay standing. As tough as it was to be able to identify a single person, we really
wanted to give each and every one of you an award. So you definitely have an honorable
mention. We're so proud of you. But the individual that we selected this year, this individual
was described by several folks who nominated this person as highly motivated, tenacious
and a stick-to-itiveness to get the issue fixed or resolved or improve the process.
Doesn't give up when everybody else around this person is giving up. Is passionate about
the work this individual does and works through every challenge that presents itself. It is
my honor to identify Roxanne Manson as the Staff Member of the Year.
