jbjb Hey Missouri State, my name is Jacob Swett and I m your Student Body President.
And I m Justin Mellish, your Student Body Vice President. As the fall semester gets
underway, we d like to take the opportunity to tell you about our vision, and about how
you as students can become involved at Missouri State. The Student Government Association
has a long-standing tradition of bettering Missouri State, and we expect this year to
be no different. Last year, Jake and I promised to bring a Commerce Bank ATM downtown, which
we think will be a great asset for students, especially as the university expands in that
region. We re working with Commerce Bank to discuss the feasibility and logistics of this
project, and we hope to have an ATM in the Spring semester. We re also working with the
university administration to change the parking lot numbering system to a naming system, which
we think will be more intuitive and easier for members of the campus community to navigate
as they search for parking lots around campus. Another focus of our administration is sustainability.
We re looking to do two major projects in that area. The first is bringing a garden
to campus. A campus garden is something that several other universities in the nation have,
and we think it would be a great addition to Missouri State; a campus garden would not
only provide students the opportunity to learn about sustainability and gardening, but also
provide healthy produce on campus. The second project we re working on is bringing a farmer
s market to Missouri State. Several students have expressed interesting in having a farmer
s market in a convenient location and time on campus, and we re committed to bringing
this project to Missouri State. Jake and I also want to encourage students to become
more engaged with the Springfield community. We re planning our first ever Alternative
Fall Break program. During fall break many students stay on campus, and we think that
this is the perfect time for students to become engaged in the Springfield community. We re
also going to be hosting voter registration drives for the upcoming elections. These November
elections are going to have great impact on students at Missouri State, so we encourage
you to register and vote in November. re also looking into promoting traditions, spirit,
and pride at Missouri State. We re going to do this by forming a commission of different
constituents on campus and having them identify traditions such as Bear Wear Friday and other
ways to promote pride at Missouri State. The main focus of this committee is just going
to help students be proud to be a Bear. Now these are just a few of the projects that
SGA is addressing this semester. As the year continues, we encourage you to become informed
and engaged with SGA, either by attending a Senate meeting every Tuesday at 5:30 PM
in PSU 313, or by catching us on The Growl every Wednesday and Sunday at 4 PM. You can
also visit our website at sga.missouristate.edu. Thanks for taking the time to learn about
our vision for Missouri State. Remember, we re your student body, your student voice,
SGA. S: Hey Missouri State, my name is Jacob Swett and I m your Student Body President
