(((Abby Nygaard))) Hi! Welcome to our latest edition of the Blugold Minute.
It’s your chance to find out what’s taking place here on the campus of the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. I'm Abby Nygaard.
(((Jesse Martinez))) And I'm Jesse Martinez. We have a number of things to tell you about this week,
and, as usual, we only get one minute to do it. So, off we go!
(((Abby))) We’re in front of Schofield Hall this week, and while we’re outside, the new man in charge of our campus is inside.
Dr. James Schmidt is the eighth chancellor of the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. Chancellor Schmidt comes
to us from Winona State University. We’d like to extend a warm welcome to our newest Blugold!
(((Jesse))) We have a new chancellor, and now we have a new name for our newest building!
The new education building under construction will be named Centennial Hall, in honor of the
upcoming 100th birthday of UW-Eau Claire, which happens in 2016.
(((Abby))) We won’t have to wait that long to move into Centennial Hall though; it will open for classes in January!
This week we celebrate the birth of our nation. And what better way to usher in the fourth of July than heading to the
lawn west of the fine arts center on July third, where the award winning movie Lincoln will be shown at 9:30.
(((Jesse))) And on July eighth, the sister group the Ericksons will take the stage at the Owen Park bandshell at seven p-m,
as a part of our summer events series. They just released their third album, which was recorded at Blugold alumnus Justin Vernon's studio.
(((Abby))) And finally, Thursday does mark Independence Day, so remember, the university will be closed. Our minute is up!
(((Jesse))) If you’d like more information on these stories, or if you’d like to learn more about
our wonderful campus, check out our website, uwec.edu.
(((Abby))) We’d like to wish you all a safe and happy holiday, and we hope you check us out
again next week for a brand new Blugold Minute!
