I'm Jamal Spencer for Expert Village, here at ABC 3 here in Lansing. And we're going
to talk about how to be a successful sports broadcaster. This clip is about exclusives.
Now, you're in a market similar to mine, than that means all of the local stations may not
cover stories that they should. You may luck out and be the only station there. That means
you can do whatever you want. In a good way though. You can interview people at your pace.
You can film at your pace. You can do whatever you want because you know no one has this
footage but you. That's when you drop the exclusive bomb on them. When you're doing
a CG, you don't just want to have the person's name, that way, that's right, like I just
mentioned, that way, the CG, their name is spelled correctly, pops up at the appropriate
time. You also want to have a CG, either in the corner or somewhere in your video that
says this is an exclusive. Only your station has this. So, if your station is ABCDE, you'll
say, "This is an ABCDE exclusive." So, let the world know, no one has this but us. It
makes it look like you're a very hard working station or a group. So make sure that when
you do an exclusive, you let the world know, you are the only media member with this footage.
Makes you look great. Makes you look hard working. Determined. Makes you look like you're
out beating your sources. You're getting the scoop on them. Whenever you get an exclusive,
make sure you put a little thing up in the upper corner, at the bottom that says, "Hey,
this is an exclusive. Only we have this."
