Ashkenaz in Palestine?
It is first of all Kibbutz.
It's not religious Jews,
Lituanians and Hassidic Jews,
that tranposed their exile to here,
but they came to build a new thing.
No connection between this and the Ashkenazis
in Eastern Europe.
In highschool I had to read the book
Motl ben Peissi the Cantor.
The characters I encountered in there,
and that fascinated me,
after I read the book avidly
from end to end in a few days,
I haven't seen them here.
That's something different.
How to say it, I saw them...
I live here for 50 years,
my foot haven't stepped here.
I always saw them going around
in the fields with tractors and strange tools,
I saw tall trees growing here
that don't exist in our area,
in Wadi Ara and the region.
What dominates here is alienation from the surrounding,
alienation and conflicts,
that's the dominant culture.
Even in the Kibbutz, they can tell you whatever..
in the end that's how it is.
They build fences,
they sent the best fighters to the war.
And the fact, as I told you,
I live 2Km away from here.
That's the first time I go into this kibbutz,
and all the kibbutzim in the area.
I never went in.
Not only me, all my generation.
There is Ashkenaziness in Europe
that I read about,
and I identify as a member of a minority
with the Ashkenazis in Europe as a persecuted minority,
and there is Ashkenaziness here,
which is a persecuting minority.
But the old folks on our street ask:
"why at our expense?"
That's the question,
to make it into the Palestinian tragedy?
and we live the situation
that the Jewish question
became the Palestinian problem.
Lyrics: in the kitchen of al yahood we will serve you food.
Look, the Kibbutz,
and Israeli culture in general,
and political culture especially,
is built on...how to say,
a house of lies.
A lie on top of a lie
on top of a lie.
It's like an onion.
You peel it, and you think
you reach a kernel of truth.
No, you keep peeling, keep peeling,
another lie built on top of another lie.
At the end there is nothing.
That's what we have here.
I'd send them to read
one of the ten commandments:
"do not lie."
There are tears eventually
from peeling an onion, no?
True.
I keep the tears to myself.
The Ashkenazis took our Palestine,
not the Mizrahis.
Those shouting "death to the Arabs"
didn't take our land,
those who said "we brought peace on you" took it
They conquered every Palestinian village
and they sing to us "we brought peace on you."
What peace, what nonsense?
This is what's offensive,
"We brought peace on you."
Look what lie.
Those shouting "death to the Arabs!"
do nothing.
But those saying "we brought peace on you..."
--no connection to author Shalom Aleichem,
who deserves every respect--
but "we brought peace on you"
and they take from us...
destroy our homes,
expell the people,
take the land,
and then they come and *** on us,
in the name of socialism, values,
universalism, and what not.
If I have a goal in life it is to
blow up these balloons of lies.
Not with a suicide attack.
But that I stay alive,
and that they too stay alive,
but we blow up the lies.
If we blow up the lies,
then there is the possibility
of co-existence on this land.
