Interviewer: Do you have any political aspirations now, after playing
the president?
Noah: I have even less, even less.
Interviewer: I was going to say, Tom kind of struggled with that role,
to balance the personal and the professional.
Noah: I like to think that he was playing the part of the president as
opposed to being the president. He understood the city of Charlestown
needed some semblance of a civic structure and that they needed to have a
figurehead, and he was willing to go along with it. But I don't think he
had any illusions that he had any actual power. And it was sort of like
putting on an ill-fitting suit. He got more comfortable as it went on, but
I don't think that it was anything that he really set himself out to be.
Interviewer: Did you question, along with other characters, even you as
an actor, wonder why he has been so trusting of Volm?
Noah: Well, yeah, I mean that was one of the big, I kept on the phone with
the writers going "Okay, so Tom's the only one who believes that this a
good idea." You're not gonna make me look stupid, are you? At the end of
the season these guys are gonna be trustworthy, right? I think a lot of it
had to do with, you can't argue with results, This alliance has suddenly
turned the tide of the war, we're not just defending our boundaries, we're
expanding them. The enemy's on the run, we've got all this new tech that
seems to be far more powerful than anything we've had before. And there's
something innately trustworthy about the Volm, Cochise in particular. That
they forged this odd friendship that despite once burned, twice shy, in
terms of aliens coming to earth, Tom's willing to give it the benefit of
the doubt.
Interviewer: Last time we saw Tom, he was in precarious position.
Noah: Yes, he was.
Interviewer: Where will he be the next time we see him?
Noah: He's going to be in, I think what's been my favorite show of
the entire series, I'm really very excited about next weeks show. It's the
first time that we've ever played with our narrative structure and with our
timeline and we see a different version of everybody's character than we've
ever seen before. And we meet a character that has been a very strong
presence in the Mason family that we've never seen before, that we've never
met.
