Church is often associated with rituals, some good, some perhaps not so good. If you grew
up in the church, one of the important rituals was always giving your Sabbath School mission
offerings every week. And no doubt if you were a kid growing up in North America, your
parents would give you one of these every Sabbath. A crisp one-dollar bill.
You know today that dollar bill has been devalued. In fact to give the same amount that you gave
forty years ago, you’d have to be giving almost six dollars today. And yet so many
of us, just out of ritual, just out of habit , we give that devalued dollar, every Sabbath.
I’d like to invite you to rethink, to pray again about your commitment to supporting
the mission around the world. Are you giving out of habit, out of ritual?
Or are we responding as disciples of Jesus to His love and giving is a natural response.
Every dollar that we give helps support the mission of this church through education,
through medical work, through missionaries, through church planting and so much more.
Today we can give in the offering plate, or we can give online at AdventistMission.org,
or in North America, we can mark “World Budget” on our Tithe envelopes.
Whatever you choose to do, may God continue to richly bless you as you make mission giving
part of your spiritual commitment.
