>>LEON FONTAINE: You're about to
meet a guy totally off to
Christianity. What brought him
back and then the astounding
miracles that took place in his
life.
♪ (Theme Music) ♪
>>ANNOUNCER: Jesus has paid the
price that all might be saved.
But salvation is a process of
the heart. For some it's an
instant realization. For others
it's an unfolding of getting to
know the Word. True forgiveness
and the holy spirit at work in
my heart. On today's show Leon
chats with Dave Neher who's
incredible life story points to
the glory of God and the
beautiful process of salvation.
>>LEON: I'm here with Dave
Neher. Great to have you Dave.
>>DAVE NEHER: Glad to be here my
>>LEON: Now you and I have known
each other for man is it three
years, three four years.
>>DAVE: A few yeah.
>>LEON: I want people to hear a
little bit about your story. I
want to start off with kind of
your experience with
Christianity. Were you raised in
a Christian home?
>>DAVE: Yeah, totally. Very
grateful I was. I was born in a
farming community where either
you're a Baptist or not saved
and you're world is over and
>>LEON: So did you follow Jesus.
>>DAVE: Well I didn't really see
Him walking any where's so I
could never catch up. When I
first was forced to go to church
I was like every other person
there in my youth group. We were
there because our parents drove
us there and there was no way
out. We didn't have macs. We
didn't have Iphones. We didn't
have any of those good things.
We had to go to church. So I was
sitting in church and one day, I
have no idea who the pastor was
but he was talking and rambling
on about stuff. It kept going
back about this whole fire
insurance thing. Got to have
fire insurance. I'm going,
whatever. But somewhere between
the beginning of the songs and
the ending of the songs I
decided, man, you know what. I
really don't feel like burning
in hell for the rest of my life.
The way I'm going I'll be there
tomorrow. So I think I'm going
to get this fire insurance
thing. When they did the alter
call I went up to endorse the
fire insurance policy. It wasn't
about learning about walking.
>>LEON: Just kind of a fear,
make sure you don't go to hell.
>>DAVE: Yeah. So I signed up for
the fire insurance policy. It
was a good thing.
>>LEON: Now other than just
church sounding like it wasn't
really relevant for you was
there anything else you were
hurt or offended by Christians,
churches? Cause when I first met
you we hired you to do sound at
a church plant in Calgary. We
needed a sound man. I think we
just found the company name
through somebody. Hired you. You
came in. You were a little jaded
I think about church and
Christianity.
>>DAVE: A little. You can
actually take that word out.
>>LEON: Why were you so jaded?
>>DAVE: Well as a production guy
you get the opportunity to work
with a bunch of different
people. Sometimes they're
awesome. Sometimes they're
lesser than awesome. Sometimes
they're just fricken crooks. So
I was involved in a street
ministry that was from another
church organization that was not
in affiliation with what my
family was. Kind of a funny
story. We were on this faith
healing mission trip. It was
like you're getting paid
tomorrow. Tomorrow never comes.
One of my guys in a round about
way said to the guest speaker,
“Do you believe in healing.” Oh
absolutely. At this point I was
already gone. I was in the bar.
I had cashed my chips in because
I knew we were either getting
fired or he was going bankrupt.
I didn't know. Either way I was
taking the night off. So my
lighting guy laid the lands of
anointing on him in a very none
spiritual way. So they knew
where I was so they came to the
bar. “We've got to get out of
town pretty quick.” Why, what
happened? He told me, “I just
laid the boots to this
individual.” Well he kind of had
it coming. There were so many
better ways we could have dealt
with that. So when I came to
Springs...
>>LEON: Because you're company
looks after sound, staging,
lighting.
>>DAVE: Concerts, tours and
festivals yeah.
>>LEON: So you came to Springs
to do that. Tell me a little
bit about that experience. Was
it different.
>>DAVE: Well I came with the
full expectation of being told
we need to do this and at the
end of the day not being
reimburse for it. Or being told
that great job, great job, we'll
pay you tomorrow. Or whatever
the story that this organization
would do. So I was coming with
an axe to cut you down. To make
sure at the end of the day I was
ok. You well whatever. You can
take care of yourself. You're a
big boy. (Laughter) The very
first time we worked together
I'm not going to lie I had no
respect for you. You came and
you chatted with me. You left, I
went, wow, cool dude. A few
weeks later we chatted a bit
more going, you know this guy I
think is ok. I'm actually going
to give him a chance. So I went
from being the sound guy or
working with the audio guys or
working with whatever
department. I went from that
facet to actually listening and
learning who you were.
Reconnecting with the Holy
Spirit and the Lord Jesus Christ
that I had never experienced up
until that point.
>>LEON: Now we needed you for a
period of time there. Before we
got our sound systems up and
going or the vollunteers. But
even after we didn't need you I
still saw you standing at the
back. You started coming. What
was going on in your head then?
>>DAVE: That's when you kind of
beat me over and I went, this
guys legit. This guy is actually
sharing life experiences and
allowing me to have an
opportunity to learn from his
life and apply that in my life
and make Jesus Christ apart of
my life just as you've made Him
part of yours. So I was hanging
out with audio and lighting
guys, Bruce and Doug at that
point. The deal was we always
had coffee, donuts or slurpees
at the end of the gig. We
started talking about, you know,
Leon's actually real. He's
legit. What he's saying is
actually honest, wow. So I kind
of went from being this shaded
individual to somebody who
actually sat back, listened and
wanted to learn and move
forward in my life also.
>>LEON: It's really cool to me
is that first of all you came to
church. We struck up a
friendship, always high fiving,
chatting at the back. You've
been helping us out with sound
anytime we need something there.
But it's great to watch you
grow in the things of God. The
excitement in your life that
Jesus is real. We don't have to
look like. Like we don't look
like twins right now. I haven't
got my piercings in yet or
growing my goatee.
>>DAVE: We can change that.
>>LEON: But we're brothers in
God if we love Jesus. Do you
feel loved, accepted?
>>DAVE: Yeah.
>>LEON: I think that's important
to us. It's for all kinds of
people coming to church. That
we're all on different
journeys. We're all in
different places in this walk
with Christ. In fact we're going
to come right back with Dave.
We're going to talk about a
horrific accident and a bunch of
amazing miracles that took
place.
>>DAVE: How that works I have no
idea other than God said, “Not
your time yet buddy. We'll smash
you up real good but we'll save
your neck. We'll make sure
you're not going to be
paralyzed.” So when I'm laying
in the hospital and hear them
talking all of a sudden it dawns
on me, dude, they're talking
about you.

>>LEON: Alright Dave, we're
back. Now you are working with
your career, attending church,
growing in the things of God.
Like we never stop growing. We
never stop changing. Never any
of us hit perfection. But then
something happened to you which
was huge. You got in a horrific
accident. What was happening.
You were driving in a jeep. Down
which highway?
>>DAVE: That would be highway
21. Apparently I should have
read the owners manual.
Apparently the jeep, despite the
fact it had been driven out to
the farm a number of times it
failed miserably. It did not
know it's way home that day. So
I was driving and I actually
stopped to fuel up. I jumped
back on my little buggy. I just
pulled through the stop sign,
took off and another vehicle
followed me. I wasn't really
paying any attention too. I fell
asleep after driving five miles,
whatever. I was so close to
home. That's always when it
happens. I rolled the jeep.
>>LEON: It rolled in the ditch.
>>DAVE: Through a construction
zone I understand. I parked it
on my head.
>>LEON: So were you ejected from
the vehicle or were you still in
it?
>>DAVE: I was in it.
>>LEON: So the thing kind of
mashed you inside. So were you
conscious or unconscious?
>>DAVE: Both. I was conscious
enough when someone came and
asked me what happened. I said,
“I screwed up.” Not sure that's
exactly how it was. Not be word
perfect. I knew I goofed.
>>LEON: Now what are all the
injuries you later found out.
What had happened to your body
while you were laying there. You
hurt your leg, arm, head? Give
me a list of all the things that
happened while you're laying
there.
>>DAVE: How much time do we
have? (Laughs) What happens is
this vehicles that was following
me from Calgary, they stopped to
take a leak and I stopped to
fuel up convenient. I took off
and I passed them. When I rolled
they phoned their father and
said, “Hey, we're going to be a
little late. Some dude just
rolled his vehicle. We're going
to make sure he's ok and then
we'll be on our way.” So they
said ok. As it turns out the
father miraculously has the
authorization to call Stars
directly. Stars area ambulance.
So got the helicopter to come
out and he was able to spot it
because he has authorization to
do that because of his oil
patch activity. So before the
cops even knew about it. Before
the local RCMP and the others.
>>LEON: Which would have taken a
lot of time. It would have taken
a tone of time to have RCMP
respond. Then the ambulance
respond. It was ***, instantly
the call went out and
helicopter came and got you.
>>DAVE: You know what, people
say, my buddy always says, “God
protects little kids and
idiots.” After that he said,
“God protects little kids,
idiots and Dave.” I said,
absolutely. When the ambulance
was there I just finished work
on the rodeo and two of the guys
in the helicopter knew me by
name. It was like David, David,
David. So I should probably not
say this but I'm going too, I do
believe that because the kids
following me had their father
call Stars and the guys from
Stars knew me I would strongly
suggest I had maybe a little
better medical attention then
you.
>>LEON: So what happened to
your body? What were your
injuries?
>>DAVE: I was laying in the
hospital and I heard the doctor
say, “No fib, no tib, broken
ankle, broken toes, broken
heal, broken shoulders, Brocken
wrist.” I'm going, “That poor
sucker.”
>>LEON: The two bones in your
leg, then bones in your feet.
>>DAVE: Heals, ankles. Wrist.
>>LEON: Wrist were busted,
fingers busted.
>>DAVE: If you're going to do it
do it right man. Not this stub
your toe crap. That's the most
amazing thing. I kept hearing
the doctor go, broken, smashed,
broken. No neck injury. Brocken,
Brocken, no neck injury. Brain
smashed up as you can only
imagine. I've never recovered
from that right. I kept hearing
him talk about all this negative
stuff. They kept coming back and
saying, “But the neck not
injured.” How that works I've
got no idea other than God said,
“Not your tim yet buddy. We'll
smash you up real good but we'll
save your neck. We'll make sure
you're not paralyzed.” So when
I'm laying in the hospital,
hearing them talk and all of
this. It dawns on me, dude,
they're talking about you. Wow.
Do in my own goofy way, they had
buzzed out on who knows what
all. I don't have a clue. But I
was sure I was floating pretty
good. I just said in my gut,
“You know what God, there are
things in my life that are
great. There's thing in my life
that need to be changed. So
right now something needs to be
changed. I'm going to walk out
of this place. Give me the
ability to walk. Give me the
ability to talk. Give me the
ability not to have my life
ended because of this stupid
automobile crash. Don't take
away what I can do unless you're
giving this world another Dave
