INTERVIEWER: We didn't ask about OCD, how that connects with literacy...
or technology, or... Do you have any stories about that?
LENNARD DAVIS: Other than constantly checking my email? *laughter*
INTERVIEWER: Something about constantly checking your email sounds fine.
LENNARD DAVIS: Well, for me, I think OCD is a lot...
I have a lot to say about it that I can't say in a short time.
I think that you can use the traits of OCD well or badly.
Or, another way of putting is... some people...
It's in our culture in a very powerful way. Some people can manage it,
other people fall off the cart.
I feel like when I've been successful as an academic in writing,
it's when I've managed those traits well.
Writing is something that's very obsessive. In order for you to do it properly,
you have to go at it all the time, you have to think about it all the time.
I do, anyway. It's not one of those projects that you can do casually.
And if you do it well, I think you have to be obsessive.
