Hello Lions, Shonda Gibson here. I'm the executive director of global learning for the campus
and the QEP director. When asked to present a leadership tip, my immediate thoughts went
to one of the most influential authorities on leadership, Dr. John Kotter. An inspiring
figure who demonstrates his passion for educating, motivating and helping people. His most popular
book, "Our Iceberg is Melting," it actually helped launch a leadership philosophy that
is centered on action. It's a simple, yet unforgettable, story about a group of penguins
on a melting iceberg and the changes that they undertake to survive and thrive in the
midst of a very unclear future. The story demonstrates that leadership is how you choose
to act; not about a formal position. Everybody in an organization can demonstrate leadership
and they should. And part of that includes coming up with possible solutions to challenges
and how you might go about addressing an issue or a barrier. It's about taking action, rather
than purely relying upon others in formal leadership positions. Leadership is about
taking initiative. It's about transformation. It's about positively influencing those that
are around you. It's about how you choose to behave. Leadership is all about getting
involved and taking action.
