and he served as a bridge between an Army built to train
and an Army built to deploy into protracted wars on a rotational cycle.
We are involved in a protracted conflict with a determined, ruthless,
and adaptive foe. That foe was yesterday, is today, and will
be tomorrow confronted by the American soldier.
