What we're going to discuss and talk about is how to properly inspect the head wear a
firefighter wears known as the helmet. The head wear can be physically inspected on the
outside of the shell, or skull cap by visually inspecting for any type of depression, discoloration,
cracking, or any other types of damage by pressing with the hand and the fingers to
feel any such damage. At the same time if there's reflective type of striping on the
helmet it can also be inspected for any type of discoloration or damage where it's no longer
adhering to the shell of that part of the helmet. We can move on to the eye wear, whether
it's a protective shield or whether it's a pair of goggles that's strapped to the helmet,
we can make sure that the locking mechanisms or knobs turn freely and do their job locking
and make sure that the clips are in place that hold that *** from coming completely
off as we unscrew it. We then move on to the interior part of the helmet inspecting the
headliner, or the ear flaps for any type of discoloration or damage, and the webbing inside
of the skull cap to make sure it's intact and in place. Helmet check can be done very
simple after every fire.
