Hello, I’m Doctor John Fitzgerald and get ready to learn with my nutrition advisor.
Today I have with me Chris Algeri who just won the junior WBO belt on June 14, 2014.
Two weeks ago. The thing about it is Chris knows nutrition. If you wanna follow somebody
that knows what they're doing follow this guy. He has a master's in Clinical Nutrition.
He sees patients all over the east coast. He’s very well known for this.
He has a recipe that I am in love with, this is my favorite recipes now because he showed
me how to use jalapenos in superfoods smoothies. So I am going to give it to Chris and he is
going to tell us about it.
Thanks Doc, this is actually a really fun recipe and I was trying to figure out how
it came to mind and I have a garden in my backyard and a lot of fresh greens back there.
I got jalapeno peppers, so I love jalapenos, I love spicy food, so I figured I would throw
it in a smoothie. You know why not. So we figured out a nice recipe for this.
So we have the vanilla almond milk in here. I like to use the sweetened so it can cut
a little bit of the spice.
Also kale, lots of kale. We got two cups in here. We want to make this very strong, earthy,
green smoothie and kale is one of the most nutritious vegetables out there dark leafy
greens.
One thing that I noticed was, I bought big leaves of kale. Completely different taste
than these little baby leaves. These little baby leaves taste so much better.
That mature kale has got a very strong flavor and sometimes even the fiber that is in it
is very thick, it’s hard to chop up. The baby stuff is a lot easier to work with and
it taste better too.
Next up is avocados, which is great for mono-unsaturated fatty acids good healthy fats, great for circulation,
great for your heart, great for your brain, great for everything, so avocado really is
a true superfood ingredient in this particular recipe. Also, actually because the fat involved
in it, the fat that is in it, it makes the smoothie stay better. It doesn't separate
as much. It really combines and emulsifies everything. It is a really, really good ingredient
in there.
We’ve got our protein so we can round it out and make it a full meal.
We’ve got vanilla extract in here for some flavor.
We’ve got those jalapenos we were talking about. You can add as much or as little as
you want depending on how much spice you want to add in there. Very healthy too. It’s
got capsaicin, which is gonna keep your body in a fat burning mode, which is always good
for weight loss.
We've got some mint which actually cuts some of the spice and adds some more flavor. It’s
also a very healthy nutrient.
Now look at these puny little leaves that I have out here. We’re in Las Vegas and
we’re in the desert and I planted this mint here and I get these puny little leaves.
Yeah, I was saying I got big ones back on the east coast. These little ones, they are
flavorful though. They are a strong smell and that's a nice addition in there too.
Then we got the dates, which is very good for digestion. Also some sweetness in there,
it thickens it up. I like getting little pieces of the dates in there.
And then we got our superfoods.
And what we're using here, as you can see we have Ancient Chocolate and then another
serving of Ancient Greens. Oh excuse me, we got Ancient Delight. I forgot about that.
Chris is big into this mix and these are actually some the first recipes where I just started
combining multiple bags and it came out great. We got together, he brought over these recipes
and we through superfoods in there and mixed them all up, it just came out so wonderful,
now I do a lot of that too where I mix the superfoods.
Well I asked you could we mix them and you were like I don’t know why not.
Yeah, it was the first time. Why didn’t I think of that, I have only been doing this
for like 20 years. I never thought of jalapeno either. So there we go.
Some fresh ideas sometimes. That’s all, some new blood.
Ok, all we have to do is throw it in the blender, add some ice and blend away.
I always love the smell as soon as I finish up.
So do I.
You get that fresh, fresh aroma.
Yeah, that’s definitely a top one.
You can smell the spice.
I used to not really like spicy stuff and as I have gotten older, now I just love it
and I tend to make some with cayenne in there, some of our recipes, and once I found out
I could actually throw this in there and make it taste good, it just, something about the
greens in there with that jalapeno in there just sets it off.
Totally delicious.
And as you said this is kind of a creamy one from that avocado.
Yep.
So, cheers.
Thanks for watching. Try this one, you are going to love it.
