There's still plenty of clean up to be done after the mess that was the Red Wedding. Another
season concludes and the war rages on both North and South of the wall. But the common
thread that carries season 3 to the end is in the words of Tywin Lannister "The House
that puts family first will prevail." Heather here, back to talk about the season 3 finale
of Game of Thrones, so if you haven't seen "Mhysa" yet, this is your official spoiler
alert!
Let's break it down by house shall we...
Joffrey just can't wait to serve Sansa her brother's head on a plate! But unfortunately
for Joffrey, his family isn't willing to let that happen and Joffrey once again proves
he is unfit to be King by throwing a giant temper tantrum!" It was nice to hear Tyrion
threaten him and Tywin send him off to bed like the baby that he is! And I'm just going
to say this because this could be the last Game of Thrones recap I do but f*** Joffrey!
If anyone deserves to die in this whole bloody show it's you!
After sending the little *** to bed, Tywin and Tyrion have a chat about the Red Wedding.
Tywin explains that he commanded it to defend and protect the Lannisters! Was it the right
thing to do? No. But does Tywin have a point when he says family comes first? Absolutely!
The Lannisters have always been in it for themselves and that's why they are on top!
But did he have to prove his point by rubbing in the fact that he never wanted Tyrion for
a son?
Balon Greyjoy on the other hand, does not seem to value family as heavily as Tywin does.
After receiving his son's d*** in a box with the threat of more of Theon's body parts to
come Balon refuses to remove his troops from the north. Luckily Theon's sister sees the
value in saving the family name and she sets out on a mission to rescue her brother. All
I can say is it's about damn time!
So Davos may not have a son anymore, but he's still got his fatherly instincts and he is
determined to prove he did not except his knighthood in vain. Despite Stannis' command
that Gendry must die, Davos decides to help him escape. And just when we think Davos is
done for, he hands Stannis the warning that the real war is about to begin north of the
Wall. And surprisingly enough, Melisandre tells Stannis Davos is needed for this mission.
What a lucky guy!
Arya finally goes off the deep end and seeks vengeance for the death of her family members
and makes her first intentional kill. I'm looking forward to what season four has in
store for Arya Stark! I'm going to guess she's got a lot more murdering in her future!
Jon Snow has one final encounter with Ygritte. It's your typical breakup really, you know
Luckily his horse knew the way to Castle Black and Jon is once again reunited with his brothers.
Sam and Gilly finally make it to Castle Black as well but not before helping Bran get Beyond
the Wall. And for the first time it's actually revealed that Bran could be the key to stopping
the White Walkers from destroying everything.
And last but not least, although Daenerys Targaryen may not have any real family, she's
adopted a new one! A family of slaves who are apparently grateful to be freed from a
life of bondage! So now she's the mother of dragons and the mother of slaves. Still don't
know how she plans to conquer Westeros though.
Another solid end to the season. What did you like about the season finale? What are
you looking forward to when season 4 returns next spring? Leave your thoughts in the comments
and hopefully I'll see you next spring!
