This is the General Archive of Dreams and Utopias.
The thing is, Jasmine and I decided that
people have stopped playing, dreaming, laughing
And so, being the good utopians that we are
We thought that one way for people to recuperate this pleasure
Was to open a workshop where people come to play, and make their toys
But reviving all the popular art
Toys made of wood, foil, brass
I think that a form of protest is opening a space
where people can come to play, to make their toys, to have fun
and realize that with their hands they can still make things
and entertain oneself.
Here we make utopias. I know it sounds funny
but the fact that people laugh again is utopian
because we know that it isn't going to be possible
More and more, people are less interesting in laughting and more in making money
They're less interested in dancing, singing and getting together
But that's the idea of our workshop. That's why we call it
dreams and utopias. Because any utopia first began as a dream.
Look, it's not important but
I think that people without roots don't have anything.
And trade skills are being lost
I'm telling you the tailor trade is disappearing. Even if you don't believe it, there are no more tailors.
There aren't shoe makers anymore.
So, many trades are getting lost
And the trade of toymaker, the one who makes toys, is disappearing
because now everything comes imported. All leading toward people thinking less.
And the toymaker trade is
I'll give you a stick and you play with it. Invent your game.
What I do is tell you it's a puppet but you learn to drive it the best you can, giving it a voice, a script. It doesn't have batteries.
So you can recuperate a bit of the magic of imagination.
