As parents I think it’s a good thing to keep an eye on your teenagers while they are
at the house. Let’s face it, you want to spy on your kids! You want to spy on your
kids! Especially if you’re not home and they’re home. You don’t want them having
parties at your house. There is a new app that does that and a whole lot more. Diane
Ryan is live to tell us more and demonstrate how this works. That’s right guys. Have
you ever walked out of your house, got into your car, are driving to work and thought
Oh my Gosh, I forgot to turn off the coffee pot? Well if you have a smart home like we
have here, you won’t have to worry about that anymore. And we are going to talk to
a homeowner who just decided to make his house a smart home. We will be talking to Dennis
Chesney. And actually you smart home starts right here at the front door. Tell us a little
more about the lock system. The lock system is connected to the alarm and has a code in
it. When you input that code, it will turn the alarm on, turn the alarm off, depending
on which code you’re entering. It will also send me a text notification if anyone opens
it. That’s great, and that’s something you really wanted? Yeah. That way I know when
my daughter is getting home from school, and make sure everything is good. And we’re
walking over here. And there are a couple of other things that you really like about
your smart home. One of them is your thermostat here. Yeah, I have two thermostats connected
to the system. What it does is it monitors the temperature when we’re home and when
we’re away and adjusts the temperature accordingly. When we are home, it has the temperature at
a comfortable level, and when we leave it bumps it up to save on electricity. So as
we walk through your house we see some other things. So this is what you called the main
control over her? Yeah, over here is the main control panel. It also gives us a forecast
for the weather at the time. From here we can add features, delete features, and turn
the alarm on or off. And another thing that is important in your house, and you thought
this too, is that you have cameras everywhere. You can be at work and see what’s going
on in your house. Yeah that was one of the most important features to me is I can log
into the cameras with my Ipad or Iphone and see who is in my house, if anybody. And I
can actually follow them. The camera downstairs actually moves. So pretty much with a smart
house, anything that is connected to electricity can be hooked up with it as part of it. Yeah
they have modules where you can plug them into the wall and control them with your Ipad
or set them up on programs. When I’m on vacation I can have lamps hooked up to them
and they will go on and off during different times of the day. Or if I have a coffee pot
or iron, while I’m on the road I can dial in and turn them off. Looking at your kitchen
appliances, you’ve chosen not to hook them up yet, but it is possible to have everything
hooked up. I have actually played around with a coffee pot and I had it go on in the morning
and go off in the afternoon, but right now I have it all set up for lamps. Well guys,
Bill Gates spent $100 million to build his smart house. And I want to ask you, what did
it cost to make your house a smart house? About $73 a month. That’s great, and you
really enjoy being able to see who is coming in and out of here? Absolutely, and it also
gives peace of mind. I would like to have that camera in my house just to see which
dog is on the sofa while I’m not home. I’ve always wanted to do that Diane. Watch the
dogs while I’m not home. I always wonder what the dogs are doing while I’m gone and
I know they’re on the sofa and they aren’t supposed to be on the sofa.
