Wildfire endangers neighborhoods of Jerusalem. On Sunday, July 25, a large forest fire forced
the evacuation of over 2000 residents comprising three entire villages near Israel’s capital
city. The blaze started in the hills near Hadassah University Hospital, Ein Karem, on
the outskirts of Jerusalem, where the flames got dangerously close to the building, reaching
several cars in the parking area. Firefighters arrived at the affected region with 20 fire
engines, two planes and a firefighting helicopter, while the police ensured that no one was left
behind in the evacuation zone.
Our earnest thanks to all firefighters and police personnel working tirelessly to ensure
the safety of the Israeli people. We pray for the fire to be swiftly extinguished as
we strive meanwhile for such incidents to subside through our more caring stewardship
of the environment
