Pentek CRE-1 Ceramic Filter Hey everyone, Aquaman here with FilterDoctor.com.
Today we’re looking at the Pentek CRE-1. This is an industry standard size cartridge,
approximately 10 inches long by 2 ½ inches in diameter, which means it’s going to fit
into a vast array of industry standard size filter housings, like for example, the popular
Pentek 158642 that you see here. Now, the CRE-1 is a 1 micron ceramic sediment
filter. At 1 micron, it’s a perfect choice to remove extra fine sediment from your water,
and Pentek internal testing certifies the filter to reduce microbial cysts like cryptosporidium
and giardia. But perhaps the greatest feature of the CRE-1
is the reusability factor. It can be cleaned and reused many many times. Simply remove
it from the filter housing, and under running water, scrub it with a green Scothbrite, then
reinstall, and you’re back in business. Now, with most sediment filters it’s very
difficult to estimate filter life because it depends on your unique circumstances. But
with this ceramic filter, you simply need to measure the diameter, that’s the width
of the cartridge, after each cleaning; once you get down below 1.5 inches in diameter,
the ceramic has worn too thin to safely remove microorganisms, which are obviously bad for
your health, and then the filter needs to be replaced.
So, again, measure the filter for diameter, the width, and when you get below 1.5 inches,
it needs to be replaced. This is the Pentek CRE-1, a 1 micron ceramic
filter, and I’m your host Aquaman with FilterDoctor.com. Thanks for watching.
