The project "I'm Not There"
is a project to investigate
animal sensing in
ranges that are inaccessible
to humans, so ultraviolet light,
infrared light, ultrasound,
infrasound. We took
a lot of scientific literature
and we populated an island
context with creatures that
exemplified that
scientific research in an artistic way.
What we'd like to do is to
install an immersive system in
a natural history museum.
I sort of think of it as the end of taxidermy.
It might be possible to have several
projects lined up for a museum
to display where
anyone can come in and use a
Wii controller to travel through these
virtual environments and see all sorts of
amazing things. Think of all the collections
in the museum archives that could
come to life that way.
That's our hope, and we have
plenty of graduate students around who would
love to be able to work on a project like that.
So that's a future hope.
