Chris Stapleton, Arcade Fire and Modest Mouse top 2018 Forecastle Festival lineup
Jeffrey Lee Puckett, Louisville Courier Journal. Native son Chris Stapleton will headline the 2018 Forecastle Festival, with help from Arcade Fire and Modest Mouse.
This years festival will be held July 13-15 in Waterfront Park. Stapleton, from Paintsville, Kentucky, is currently riding high with From A Room: Volume 2, his second consecutive Top 5 album, and continues to define modern outlaw country.
He may be the perfect Forecastle headliner, with an unprecedented combination of platinum-selling mainstream success and homegrown pride. Its a win-win-win-win-win – however many wins you want to add, said Bryan Benson, vice president of booking at AC Entertainment, which produces Forecastle.
Getting him is a big coup for the festival, not only for his ties to the area but because of his mainstream appeal. Hes one of those universal artists and a great foundation for the top of the bill..

Stapleton has a classic genre background with a few twists: Hes from a coal-mining family in Eastern Kentucky and studied engineering at Vanderbilt University. But music was always going to win.
He was successful as a bluegrass singer and country songwriter for others, but his solo career has been a wildfire with three best-selling albums and nearly 30 awards.
This Canadian band makes art rock for former latch-key kids and is known for its kinetic live show. The band found an international audience with its debut album, 2004s Funeral, and last summer released its fifth album, Everything Now..
Arcade Fire has played Louisville twice before, in 2007 and 2014, but is making its Forecastle Festival debut.
Louisville cant enough of these guys. The Seattle band – led by original members Isaac Brock, Jeremiah Green and Eric Judy – seems to play here every other year and is making its second Forecastle appearance (but first as a headliner).
The band has no new music, although it has alluded for years to having a new album already finished, but Louisville will be fine with hearing anything from The Moon & Antarctica. Jason Isbell & The 400 Unit.
Isbell initially found an audience as part of the Drive-By Truckers, joining Patterson Hood and Mike Cooley as a three-headed songwriting monster.
As a solo artist, hes eclipsed the Truckers in popularity and matched them in critical acclaim. His most recent album, The Nashville Sound, debuted at No. 1 on four different genre charts: rock, country, folk and independent.
Houndmouth.
The pride of Southern Indiana returns with a new album this year, its first since a lineup change that saw the departure of Katie Toupin and the addition of keyboardist Chris Hickman and saxophonists Drew Miller and Graeme Gardiner.
This show will mark the bands first appearance in its home territory after the album is released. The War on Drugs.
The War on Drugs, led by Adam Granduciel, has already enjoyed widespread critical acclaim for its deeply textured indie-rock but is now consistently flirting with mainstream commercial success.
A Deeper Understanding, the bands fourth studio album, is nominated for a Grammy for Best Rock Album and debuted in the Top 10 in both the United States and United Kingdom.
