Here's a few hints and tips on how to assemble a flatback cabinet.
Once you have unpacked, lay out all your components, and familiarize yourself with each part. Make
sure you have all the contents listed; hinges, handles, shelf brackets, screws, adjustable,
feet, panels, and doors. Make sure you read through and understand all the steps and instructions
before you commence. The tools you need are: a cordless drill, a Phillips' head screwdriver,
and a soft-faced hammer. If you don't have a soft-faced hammer, use your regular hammer
and a block of timber so that you don't damage the surface.
I have attached the base panel and the back panel, on their sides, so that you don't have
to fight against gravity. And now it is easier to attach the side panel on top. The flatback
panels are pre-drilled, but make sure the panels are flush before you drive the screws.
I have turned it over and attached the other side panel, and now I'm going to attach the
front rail. Be sure it is flush before driving the screw. Ensure the adjustable feet are
off the block so that it's easier to attach, and also, fix the block five mil from the
side of the cabinet, so it doesn't interfere with the adjoining cabinet.
When attaching the mounting plate to the cabinet, it is a good tip to center the screw in the
elongated hole, to make it easier to fit the door later. Once you have attached the hinges
to the door, and you're ready to fit the door to the cabinet, attach the bottom hinge first,
and that will make it easier to attach the top.
