This is Day 4 and our route took us from Rio up to Petropolis, across to Cabo Frio, back
along the coast to Rio again.
We left Rio slightly later than usual because of the night-flight yesterday.
We headed up into the mountains to Petropolis - a town that was used by the Royal Family
where they built summer palaces.
And a lot of the palaces are now hotels or museums.
We then crossed the mountains with some spectacular jagged peaks including the 'Finger of God'
- which actually was really quite fantastic.
From the mountains we crossed to Cabo Frio and on the way we passed coffee plantations,
an orange grove, and a palm tree plantation, which is really quite exotic for us Europeans.
At Cabo Frio we refuelled, and then we shot a whole series of islands, crowded beaches
- as it was a Saturday - before heading back towards Rio along the Cope de Sol, which is
probably 50 miles of unbroken golden sand.
Back in Rio and across the bay we passed the fantastic Arts Gallery designed by the famous
Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer.
We were luckily allowed to cross the international airport on our way to see the new olympic
stadium, which is being built for the Summer Olympics in 2016.
From there, with the sun fading, we headed back to base.
Tomorrow, we head north to Pampulia and Belo Horizonte.
