Aubie Asks @ the Libraries
This video will provide tips on how to search for items using the Libraries' catalog. What is the catalog? The catalog is where you search for items AU Libraries own.
Examples include books, journals, and DVDs. To find items in the catalog, use the search
box on the Libraries' homepage. Let's look at some examples.
To find a specific book, type the title in the box, and select Title from the dropdown
menu. This book is available on the 3rd floor of
RBD library. The call number is necessary in order to locate it. Check to confirm it
is available rather than checked out. The same process works when searching for
a journal, just select Journal Title from the dropdown menu.
This journal is available online for the years 2006 through 2010. There are also print issues
of the journal on the 4th floor of RBD library. Notice the years. The library owns issues
published from 1998 through 2007. To explore a topic, type in the search terms
but leave the dropdown menu at All Fields. To keep words in a phrase together, such as
the phrase sustainable development, use quotation marks. In this example, the quotation marks
reduce the number of results from over 9000 to less than 3000. Use the options on the
left to narrow the results more, such as limiting to books published from 2000-present.
Adding additional search terms will also help to narrow the results.
If you ever have trouble finding books or other items in the library's catalog, ask
a librarian. Remember our email address- askalibrarian@auburn.edu
