I remember walking along the *** where we always went as children...
...on our way to school in the next village.
And somehow or other we must have become aware of the fact...
...that there were Germans coming.
I should have simply walked on.
I looked just like the others, wearing clogs like them.
But I must have been afraid and when I was near a farm....
...I went in, and I told them that the Germans were coming.
"Go upstairs," they said. There was no discussion.
So I went up the stairs and right up to the attic.
There was a room with a bed in it.
I was very scared of course.
And then a German soldier came in...
...and he looked.
I was sitting on the bed pretending to be doing something.
He just looked and didn't say anything. And I didn't speak either.
And then he went down again.
And he must have told the SS men who were downstairs....
...that there was nobody upstairs.
And... yes...
