Hi, I'm Meredith Hodges and welcome to the Lucky Three Ranch Training Tips.
I get a lot of letters and emails from people with training and behavior questions about their equines.
So I'm going to take you back to the beginning with a series of training tips that work for all equines.
Nothing is more important than understanding how, what, and when to feed your equine.
A proper feeding regimen is crucial to their well-being and happiness.
In this Training Tip, I'm going to talk about the oats mixture that I feed all my animals.
Additional tips for hay and pasture feeding will be covered in separate videos.
Once a day, I feed my equines a mixture of crimped oats, the vitamin concentrate Sho-Glo,
and one ounce of Mazola corn oil.
Other corn oils do not have the same effect -- that's why I only use Mazola.
This mixture promotes healthy hooves, digestive tract regularity, and a glossy coat.
With senior equines (as with any elderly animal), old age means less ability to thoroughly chew
or digest their feed the way they used to.
So give your seniors a break.
Take the time to pop their oats mixture into a blender to break it up, soak grass hay cubes
in water, and then mix the two together before you feed it.
They'll be glad you did!
Remember, whether your equine's just starting out,
at the top of his game,
or ready to enjoy some well-deserved retirement,
following the proper feeding regimen will keep your best friend healthy and happy today
and for the rest of his life.
