Hi, I'm Gina Schreck with SocialKNX. And this is our question of the week. It's kind of
part 2 from last week's question of the week. And last week, we answered the question of
how to create a business Facebook page without having a personal profile. The answer was
yes, not advised but yes.
Today, we're going answer the question, "How do I connect my personal profile to my business
page so that #1, I have full functions like we discussed last week but #2, so that people
don't see my personal post on my business page and vice-versa?"
Now, first thing I want you to understand is the two, even though they are connected
through your login, they are not connected in the information they share. So, anyone
who is a fan or anyone who likes your business page, they do not see anything from your personal
profile. As a matter of fact, they will not even know that you are the admin on that page
unless you show your name and your face, your picture on that business page. The friends
that you have, "so-called" friends on your personal profile are your family members,
they will not see your business page updates unless you choose to share them from the business
page and hit "Share this on my personal profile."
So, understand that the two are very separate. As a matter of fact, you can add yourself
as an admin to your business page and then this is also advisable, add a second person,
at least one other person as an admin on that business page. In a business, in an organization,
if something were to happen to you or if you set up the page and got it going but then
you left the organization, you want someone else to be able to have admin access to that
page.
So here's how you do this. So you created your personal profile. And then you are going
to go to your business page. If it's already existing, you're going to go to that business
page and like the page. Now, if you're just creating the page, even easier. You just log
in to your personal profile then go up to Facebook.com/pages and create your page from
there. You'll automatically be an admin.
But let's say that the page is already established and you've been asked to admin or take over
managing that page. So, log in to your personal profile. Go over to the page and like the
page. Now, whoever logs in to that business page who had ever -- who had been managing
that page before or if it is you and you never had connected the two, you're going to have
to log out of your personal profile. Log in as the business page. So again, this may be
a page that is set up under a different email address therefore you had all these limitations
and you are frustrated and now you realized that you need to connect the two.
So you're going to log in to the business page. You're going to see, "Oh, there is a
new person that has liked the page. Well, they look familiar." It's you! Now, you're
going to click on that new like or you can go up to Edit Page Manage Admins and you're
going to add yourself as an admin to that page. So, it may seem a little schizophrenic
here because you're adding yourself to your own business page.
And as you hit save, Facebook will ask you to re-enter the password and this is just
so Facebook has record of who is it that added this person or removed the person from the
admin status. So they kind of keep record based on the login password. So when you put
in the password, it's going to be the password, this is where it gets a little confusing,
it's the password that you've just logged in with. So it's the password from the business
page or the person who is adding you as an admin would have to log in with their password
they are adding you on.
Confused yet? Probably. So once you do that, you will now be showing up as an admin to
that page. So now, you log back out. Log back in to your personal profile with your personal
email, your personal password. You don't have to give anyone your password to manage that
account. What you do is you log in to your personal profile. In your left navigation
area, you will pages that you manage and this business will be listed there.
You also can go up to the top and this is as of April 2013, this is how Facebook is
laid out. But on the top-right, there's a little gear, little settings that you can
click and it will also show any page that you manage and you can just jump right over
to that Facebook page. And now, you can just post your update and it shows up on the business
page. If you want something to show up on your personal profile, you go back to your
personal profile.
So it does seem a little confusing. You may have a little fear and apprehension about
content being cross-shared. But rest assured, I'm the admin in over 50 pages, and my personal
information is not shared across the board.
So if you have any other question, we'd love to hear them. We love getting these questions
