In order to search for our print journal we need to go onto the library catalogue.
You can find the link to this on the Health Library web page under the Quick Links section.
This takes us to the catalogue. Now we are searching by the title so we need
to select that we are searching by the title. In the middle box, we need to type in the
full title of the journal we are looking for. Now we need to select which section of the
library we want to look in. Here we have the print journal section.
If we then click on Submit this takes us through to a page which will tell us all we need to
know about the journal and where we can find it.
First of all we have the title and this is the title of the journal.
The imprint is where the journal was published. The frequency is how often we receive the
journal. The note describes what print journals we
have avaialble and where you can find them. They are not always in the same place so we
do need to look at this. We'll look at this in more detail on the next
page. Here we have the subject of the journal. Here
we see it is nursing. The library has a section which says when
we started receiving the journal and when we stopped receiving the journal.
As there is no date at the end it means we are still currently having this journal in
the library. The ISSN number is a unique number to this
journal. The location of the journal could be at the
Health Library or the Campus Library so we need to double check this.
Here is the shlf-mark number for the journal. We need this sometimes to find the journal
also. Here is the status of the journal. This tells
us we can only use the journal within the library.
Now, if we look in more detail we can see, here is the reference and we are looking for
a journal in 2009. Now the note tells us that we have the issues
of the journal from 1994 to 1999 in the Health Library Store.
If we wanted a journal from 1995 we would have to go to the counter to request it from
the Health Library Store. The "library has" section shows us when we
received this journal, as there is no end date it means we're still receiving this journal,
so we will have the journal 2009 in the library.
The next slides will tell you exactly where we'll locate this in the library itself.
