>> Hello, and welcome to
Mill Creek TV. I'm Ann.
And today we're going to
learn about the really
great products that are
available today in
carpet. Carpet fibers
have improved greatly
over the last 10 years.
They last longer, feel
softer, and are more
stain resistant than
ever. As you can see
behind me, our stores
are filled with hundreds
of options with brand
names too numerous to
remember, much less know
all about in a short
period of time. So
hopefully today I can
help you navigate
through the maze of
brands, styles, colors
and help you choose the
right carpet for your
home. There are two
things to know when
choosing a brand of
carpet. Any carpet
choice you make will
have two brands
associated with it, one
being the manufacturer
of the carpet that
provides the color,
style, and texture of a
particular series, and
the other brand
associated with the yarn
that was used to create
it, like Stainmaster or
Wear-Dated. Let's talk
about one of the newer
yarns that is getting a
lot of attention today,
SmartStrand. It's one of
the miracle fibers by
Dupont. The thing that
makes SmartStrand
special is that it's
made from renewable
resources. As a matter
of fact, 40 percent of
SmartStrand is comprised
of a renewable resource.
That is corn. Most
carpet fibers are
petroleum based. So by
choosing SmartStrand,
you'll contribute to
improving our
environment by saving
valuable energy. It's
estimated that a hundred
million square yards of
carpet installed would
save the equivalent of
30 million gallons of
gasoline, enough to
power about 48,000 cars
for an entire year.
That's quite a positive
impact on the
environment. The other
important fact about
SmartStrand is that it
will perform well in
your family environment,
too. So to sum it up,
it's durable, stain
resistant, has excellent
color retention, and a
softness you just have
to feel. Yet it will
last for a very long
time. It has some of the
best warranties in the
business, and is a value
when compared to other
carpets made with older
technology. I hope this
has helped you become a
more informed consumer.
