Hi everyone! Today i want to show you how to make snow effects,
for example on the base of this knight of the Teutonic Order.
As you might already know i made a lot of snow dioramas in the past.
I mainly used these two products: "Magic snow" from "Grey funnel line" and this stuff called "Rast Deranauo".
I have no clue about the pronounciation, i assume it is Italian.
I personally prefer "Magic snow" because it is better,
but i can´t find it in the shops anymore which is really a shame!
The consistency of this stuff was a little bit more subtle than sugar.
I mixed it with wood glue and water and applied it with a brush on the surface.
It looked very good! Well, enforcedly i have to use this stuff now.
The useage of it is slightly different, the results are good aswell but it is quite expensive - about 16€ for one can.
You also need a lot of this powder.
Okay, the application is quite simple.
First i shovel some powder in this bowl, ideally you should use a spoon, because it is difficult to dump the powder into the bowl.
It is a big mess, first no powder moves from the can into the bowl, then suddenly the whole powder slips out of the can on the table.
Now i add some water, you need quite a lot.
Don´t add to much water, because then you have to add more snow powder again.
In the end you have to much snow paste which is not necessary.
It is impossible to mix the right amount of snow paste anyway, at least i never managed it to have the amount of paste i needed.
Now i mix it with a big brush, as you can see it is a quite messy work.
You should definately cover your desk with cardboard or fabric.
The powder and the water don´t mix properly, but it is only a matter of time.
I make a big mess here right now.
Now i add some wood glue, this will allow this paste to stick on the base of the figure.
Now we can apply it, ideally with a brush.
You should apply it rather careful, because there are a lot of areas (the feet of the figure for example), which we don´t want to cover.
This snow also works for smaller scales, in my opinion everything between 1/72 and 1/35 scale is perfect.
It is not perfect for big scales like the figure here, but in my opinion it is still good enough.
I´d say that´s a matter of taste.
Here you can see a disadvantage of this snow powder, you can´t pile it up here on this wall.
It is quite runny, Magic snow is much better in this case.
Finally we can apply some plants which poke out of the snow layer.
It gives the scene a lifelike look.
I carefully covered the plants with the snow paste aswell, thats it!
This was work for about 15 minutes, when dried it will be finished.
I hope you learned something new, try it if you feel like doing it.
Happy model building, your Hamilkar Barkas.
