I need a hug. Hi guys, I'm Roberto.
Welcome to Vlogservations, the vlog where I give you my observations about stuff I found
interesting this past week. Today's topic: hugs.
Wait no, was it Facebook? How about I tell you right away.
Check this out. Researchers at MIT have designed a Facebook-connected
vest that will hug you every time you receive a Like in a status, a comment or a photo you
have posted. I don't know what to say!
On one hand, have we really become that lonely and desperate that we need our clothing to
be the one hugging us? Or, have we turned that disgusted at the thought
of human contact that we'd rather have a hug from our clothing instead of a real person?
On the other hand, I'm not ready to diss these people.
Just imagine how many naysayers Alexander Graham Bell had to put up with whenever he
pitched this idea that you could talk to someone without actually looking that person in the
eyes or touching them. What an unnatural way to communicate, right?
So this vest might not have the life-changing potential that the telephone had, but it still
has some potential, I guess. Okay now, would I get a Like hug vest?
No, not really. What for?
I wouldn't be getting that many hugs after all.
You want to know why? Because Facebook in its infinite wisdom has
decided to take posts from my friends out of my newsfeed and replace them with advertisements
and celebrity posts. Okay, I get the advertisers part.
I guess someone has to pay for the service. But celebrities, really?
These celebrities don't give a crap about me, and they don't have to.
And I don't follow that many celebrities anyway because most of the time, I'm not that into
them either. But, wasn't connecting with our friends the
main reason we joined Facebook in the first place?
I just don't get it. If anything, I'd have to say this Facebook
hug vest is already late to the party. It seems to me that there is not much left
of Facebook that is worth a hug. But how about you?
Would you LIKE getting a hug from a Facebook-connected vest?
Or would you give then the nonexistent, yet ever so desired Dislike?
Yeah, it doesn't exist so there is no graphic. Thanks for watching this second episode of
Vlogservations. New posts come every weekend and there might
be updates throughout the week on my second channel, if tropical storm Raphael doesn't
cause much damage. See you guys.
