Hi,I'm Chris from Southern California Edison Tool Lending Library. In this
video, I'm going to introduce you to the air flow hood also known as the Alnor
Balometer. The airflow hood helps you measure the air flow in cubic feet per
minute or CFM.
It does some other things, but we're going to focus on testing the air flow for
your HVAC system.
These four rods hold up the hood.
You slip one end under the spring-loaded bracket inside the instrument.
And the other end into the corner of the frame of the hood.
When you got all four rods in place, this is what it looks like.
Now this foam edge is what seals the hood when you press it over the vent.
What's nice about this model is that it's light enough so you can carry it around, use it yourself.
Alright. Let's try it out.
I'm going to click on the ON switch, which is right here.
Now, I'm going to turn this upside down because this vent is on the floor.
So I hold it tightly over the vent and I get a reading.
If I push the red button on the side,
it'll lock that reading so I can write it down or just get a better look at.
Now I can compare that reading to other registers in the house and see if the heater is blowing evenly.
The air flow hood is a quick and accurate way of measuring air flow for
pretty much any heating, air-conditioning or ventilation system.
