If you talk about goals, you must also talk about method.
Yet, you often assign goals to people without ever teaching method to anyone.
Method means standardization, means control, visible management tools, indicators. Everything.
Standardization of meetings, follow-up, action plans, execution control situations,
corrective measures – a whole set of things that have to be learned…
…and put into practice in the day-to-day. Classroom learning is not enough.
It’s also classes, getting your hands dirty, finding the right course,
people keeping track, and “it’s not like this; it’s like that.”
Many executives have only a superficial knowledge of these things…
…so they believe the things themselves are superficial, you know?
And the result falls short of what it might have been.
