Invisalign is one of the most exciting new treatment modalities in dentistry. When choosing
a suitable clinician for your Invisalign there are two factors all our general dentists recommend,
and I want you to consider. Firstly, we at Smile Solutions, prefer to have your treated
by registered orthodontists who are dental board recommended specialists in the field
of dental inclusion and alignment. Secondly, we recommend orthodontists with fast experience
in Invisalign as opposed to just conventional braces. At Smile Solutions we have orthodontists
with the highest recognition given by Invisalign Australia namely platinum elite status awarded
only to Invisalign providers who carry out the most Invisalign number of cases each year.
Now let's hear from David Austin about how Invisalign works.
I'm here with David, how are you? I'm well thank you, and you? Very well thank you. So
tell me, what is Invisalign and how does it work? Invisalign is virtually the invisible
way to straighten your teeth and improve your smile without braces. To prepare for treatment
we take virtual impressions of your upper and lower teeth with the state of the art
scanner called I-Tero. This technology replaces those uncomfortable and messy impressions
of days gone by. The I-Tero hand-held scanner allows us to capture accurate 3D images of
your existing teeth and bite. We can then email these images straight to Invisalign
international headquarters where your clear aligners will be made. Invisalign treatment
comprises a series of clear aligners that are individually made for your orthodontic
requirements. Invisalign gradually moves your teeth into alignment by changing aligners
every two to three weeks until your teeth are in the correct position. And is in suitable
for anyone? Yes, we successfully treat a wide range of problems, including crooked, crowded
and space teeth. Sometimes even more complex cases such as overbites, under-bites and cross-bites
can even be treated with Invisalign. In rare cases where in is not suitable due to the
complexity of the bite patients can explore other options such as internal lingual braces
and clear braces. So with Invisalign your teeth are being gradually moved, is it painful
then? When you change your aligners every two to three weeks the aligners can initially
feel a little bit tight, but it's not terribly painful. When patients notice the feeling
of pressure they know the treatment is working and their teeth are moving to the right position.
Can Invisalign treat more complex cases? Yes, Invisalign is very suitable for both the treatment
of complex and simple orthodontic problems. It's just such a wonderful option especially
for adults I guess. Indeed, we frequently get patients who ask for Invisalign specifically
as their first treatment option. So it looks like there's actually nothing even on the
teeth. Yes Invisalign is a very aesthetic treatment option and is very difficult to
notice. The aligner is very easily removed from the teeth by pulling from the back towards
the front and around to the back of the other side. Do you wear them twenty-four hours a
day? Yes, Invisalign aligners should be worn for twenty-four hours a day, and just removed
for eating, drinking and cleaning. And will my speech be affected? Initially, as with
any orthodontic appliance, the speech may be affected in a minor way. However after
a day or so speech returns to normal. And how long overall will I have to wear them?
In general, we would expect you to wear the aligners for approximately twelve to sixteen
months. Depending on the case and the complexity, the treatment time can actually be less than
conventional fixed appliance braces. Is Invisalign suitable for all ages? Yes, we even have Invisalign
specific for adolescents.
